Looks like your router cant handle the traffic/connections utorrent generates. Check out this guide first:

If utorrent is overloading your router, this would be easy to check by just capping your bandwidth and seeing if it works better, although I highly doubt this is the case.
If you could answer a few questions, it would help us with trying to figure this out.
Have you forwarded your ports for utorrent? What is the model of your router? What os are you running and what version of utorrent? Also, what do you have to do to reconnect to the router, can you simply close utorrent and reconnect restart the computer?

hi thanks for the reply , current setup is , using utorrent via openvpn , router model wrt54g2 , running win 7 ultimate and latest version of utorrent , in order to get the net back i have to disconnect openvpn exit utorrent then have to disconect wifi and connect again . its odd as i get full 20 meg full speed for about 3-4 minutes and then drops to 0 and i have to do the whole disconecct process all over again

This is not odd. This is typical behaviour when the number of open connections are bringing a router to his knees. The longer a bittorrent client runs, the more connections he is trying to establish. If that becomes to much your router stops responding. Try the link i posted. Specially the "SLOW/INTERRUPTED INTERNET CONNECTION OR OFFLINE TRACKERS" part.

Forwarded ports are not an issue here. As ports are open or closed. And a closed port would simply mean he couldnt connect at all.

p.s.: I just assume you already checked for the latest firmware and drivers, dont tell us otherwise .-)

pretty common with the wrt54g series, i think. as i have the same router and occasionally have the same issue. limiting the amount of torrents to only the most essential is basic way of keeping it in good standing without overloading the router and having to "powercycle".

in the end, my advice would be to get an updated model... some good n series one (doesn't necessarily have to be another linksys), which is what i'm planning on doing as soon as my income tax return comes in! lol
