Thread: Regarding not getting caught.

Hello, I am new to these forums and wanted to ask about torrenting without getting into trouble. I have read through some of the tutorials on this website regarding privacy and such and I had a few questions.

First, I have read to use private trackers and to stay away from demonoid. Um, would using demonoid be better than using something like The Pirate Bay?

Second, I am kind of tight on money and don't see myself being able to pay for a vpn or seedbox anytime soon. What is the best protection I can get for free; I already have peerblock. I don't do that much torrenting so I don't think I would want to pay for a vpn or seedbox anyway.



Last, I don't know that much about hiding my ip address but would something like this

Demonoid is better than TBP but it's still unsafe because it allows downloads without registration. TPB is extremely unsafe and you should never download anything from there.

Using demonoid is way better than using the pirate bay, but most law enforcement agencies are well aware of it and already included it on some lists of sites being target for having pirated stuff.

Using more private trackers than demonoid is ofc much more safe. I dare to say you dont need to worry with it, unless you are using one behemoth like tl. Even there, the chances of you getting into trouble without being staff or a heavy uploader of original content is very, very low in the near future.

Programs that promisse to block ips are usually shit and won't work. I would get rid of peerblock as it is useless at private trackers.

So, get into a true private tracker and use it as usual, besides using a vpn or a seedbox there is nothing much you can do and be aware that most trackers will ban you if you keep using proxies or changing your ip to other countries when browsing their sites. I know that gft don't like any kind of vpn while browsing. (also, don't use any kind of proxy here too)

Does seeding increase my chances of being caught?

ive had one email in just over 2yrs at demonoid and it was for Easy A lol, that was about 1yr ago after that i found TI and have used private sites since and never had problem

Really man? I've been downloading stuff from ThePirateBay for close to 5 years now, and in those 5 years I've only received one warning.

I'm smarter now, of course. If I really want a movie I'll download it with my seedbox and then HTTP download it back to my PC, use my BTGuard VPN or just jump on a private tracker.

I agree with Fractal, using a private tracker you don't really need to worry about it.
On private trackers the most heat would be on uploaders and admins, and the same kind of automatic electronic billing of peers as on open trackers would be non-existent. If "authorities" decide to take actions against a tracker they are more likely interested to take down the site or catch people who release the stuff. But scene material for instance travels a long way before it gets to the private trackers, so they would be looking in the wrong place anyway. Those who are looking to send bills don't attack private trackers because all they are interested in is the money of those huge masses, private sites with user limits are too small to be worth the effort. And the percentage of seedbox users on private trackers is substantially higher than on open trackers so they would hardly be successful anyway.


A huge tracker that doesn't require you to signup to download is "unsafe".
A small tracker that doesn't require you to signup to download is rather unsafe.
A large private tracker with frequent open sign-ups but also implementing an invitation system is rather safe.
A tracker that is open only once or twice per year it is almost as secure as invite-only trackers.
A tracker that never opens for registration and only accepts new users through invites is safe.
Trackers that have closed signup forever and only VIPs or admins get to invite new users are the safest.


If you are new to private trackers you could start with IPTorrents, which has a lot of torrents, a lot of freeleech (no download counted), basically the same files as on Demonoid minus all the junk and viruses they have. And in most cases you would get better speeds.


But in the end it mostly depends on where you come from, in certain countries you could download anything from TPB with no problems.

Since VPN's came up, I'd like to mention that they aren't very expensive. AirVPN.org is the only one I'm considering right now, because of their privacy policy.
