Thread: Filezilla FTP error's

When im downloading from my seedbox I see errors in the log from time to time.

The transfers work ok, But just wondered what this is?

Error: GnuTLS error -8: A record packet with illegal version was received.
Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted



I presume by "illegal" it means a failed file rather then a criminal action?

If transferring works fine, I think you should just ignore it. Unless you don't have an issue with turning off encryption.

I assume the connection drops and then it either restarts automatically or you have to restart manually.
The problem is certainly a misconfiguration firewall or router that drops the connection silently.

What kind of FTP server are you using?

Are you using passive or active mode? In passive mode, the client has no control over what port the server chooses for the data connection. Therefore, in order to use passive mode, you'll have to allow outgoing connections to all ports in your firewall.

I have from time to time these kind of problems, since I use virtual Win7 machine I have multiple network adapters and sometimes have these kind of errors show up ( A record packet with illegal version was received.).
Do you have multiple network adapters, VPN or some kind of AV program that sits on top of you network adapter ?

To be honest guys I cant answer a lot of the things you have asked as I am not overly computer minded.

I have downloaded filezilla in order to get my downloads off my seedbox onto my computer, It works fine but I just see that error in the log from time to time, It does not stop the download and the file plays well once its recieved.

I know I am not doing myself any favours here, I have asked for your advice but vcant give you the info you need to answer my question properly.

I suppose all I really wanted to know is - As long as the videos I download work ok, Do i need to worry about these errors popping up periodically?
