Default Good Internet connection, not so good in downloading/uploading internationally

So, I have a decent internet connection compared to all my country (Portugal) according to the Speedtest's graphic, I have better internet connection than the rest 94% of the population. Here is my speed details:

What happens is that, as I live in Portugal, here I don't have any far good trackers at all, I only use 2 national which I think are the best within my location. So as a part of IPT, TL and some other trackers that are international, I don't even can reach 1/3 of the speed. I know the distance here is the main factor and the tracker's quality it's important too as the speed of who are seeding to me for me to download in a good speed, but is there any thing I could do to improve my speed in international/further distance trackers?

Since the trackers I use more, don't even have a very good content and some of the times, I don't even find what I want to, so I wish someone here give me some tips.

    Thanks for your attention.

You can't really do anything to increase your speed except changing ISP. But I have a question for you. Did you try your speedtest with a different location? Try to make the test with different locations in America and Europe and see if the speed drops significantly. Maybe you do have a very good national connection but your ISP has a lousy backbone and inter-connection - making international traffic slow.

daydada is correct on this, I would try getting a speed test from Luxembourg, Germany, France along with New York, Dallas and San Francisco in the USA to give you an idea what your seed/leech possibilities are.

I'm not so sure it'll be because of your location...Those trackers have many peers in Europe...especially France where OVH seedboxes are which most people use...

Are you sure you understand the speedtest properly? That should give you around 7MB download and 600KB upload speed...

Also...it could be that your ports are not forwarded properly or that you can't make enough connections which i know was a problem with WinXP...I'm not too good with that stuff but maybe someone could help you identify if that could be the problem..

I'm guessing you know how torrent works and all about how number of peers and seeders determin your speed....do u get this problem with popular torrents that would be about 4/5Hrs old?

Hi mate.. Can you please do the following?

    1. Post a speedtest from your place, but use a speedtest server from London, Stockholm etc.
    2. What are your OS?
    3. What are you client? (I bet you need a tweak here).
    4. Are you connetable, and do you know what it is?

    Thank you

I did some research on this and I think that's nothing to do with my ISP since I'm in a national tracker which the most of the people have the same ISP and the most of them download from other trackers to upload there, so, they need to have a nice speed for out of the country. The issue here it's more likely to be the forwarded ports. I'm not sure on this but I think I didn't have the settings properly that varies on every different tracker and so, I might not receiving the connections I had to.Thanks for helping me with this. :)

    Hey, thanks for the response.
I use Windows 7 x64, my client is uTorrent and it's been for very long time (years), what do you mean with connectable?

    Thanks for all users' support.

Please try http://canyouseeme.org/ and see if you are connectable!

Give me a second I'll get you connectable. I'll edit this post after!

Temp edit: What is your router?

    ---

    ADDED:

This is how to get connectable(open ports in the router).
Check out http://portforward.com/ for help with your router.

    1. We are going to start with to get the IP to the router.

    2. When the Run popup shows type CMD

    3. Now type ipconfig in the CMD box.

    4. Now we are going to search for the ip to the router. The router ip should be listed at "standard gateway", which in mist cases is 192.168.1.1.

    5. Now take the ip adress we got from CMD and put it into the webbrowser, when you hit enter, it should ask you for USERNAME and PASSWORD, theese details should be included in the description of the router, or if you configured it yourself you know it.

    6. Now we got access to the routers configuration, most of routers should have a button called "port forwarding", or " Game & Applications" or similar

    7. Now we are going to choose which port we want to open, to do this we have to open the settings/preferences in µTorrent/Azerues what ever you use.

    8. Open the client, go to the settings/preferences (ctrl+p)

    9. Then go to "Connection"

    10. Choose which port you want to use, im using port 50000. NOTE: unmark the "Randomnize port each start"

    11. Now we choosed port in your µTorrent, press apply and then press OK.

    12. Now we are going to check which local ip adress you use, this is done once again in CMD. But this time you check IPv4-Adress, which in my case is 192.168.1.10. This IP adress is going to be used when we open the port.

    13. Head over to the webbroswer again, and go to the router configuration website "port forwarding". Type in the port you want to use, the ip and press activate.

    14. Now your router may want to reboot, or will just keep running. You should now be connectable, to be sure you can check out http://canyouseeme.org/ .

Do you maybe have a tracker that displays if you are connectable or not in your profile?
With connacteable it means that your port(s) are forwarding the connection, because if not the speeds will be much slower. It basically means that peers that haven't properly forwarded their ports aren't able to connect to as many peers as the others.

Did you try to download a torrent from the top10 on IPT? Was the download, and only the download speed in the range of 7MB/s?
The upload speed varies greatly and it depends on a lot of factors concerning the selection of the torrent: number of peers, how much they want and can download/upload, how many other seeders ...

If you post the details of your router I or someone else will definitely be able to help you set it up properly.

How to Port forward a netowrk router - YouTube
Thanks for your great response. I did that few days ago and I visited the port forwarding's site, unfortunately my router is not widely well known once is a special router fabricated by my Internet Provider and I don't find the original model of the equipment in the site. In canyouseeme.org, I can see properly my IP and the enable ports I had open before. Thank you so much for your time, it really helped me acquire some knowledge on this. I have just one doubt, if I shut down my router's firewall it will opens all the ports? (I know it's dangerous, but I have already a firewall (software) and don't think that where I navigate on the Internet could catch some kind of virus, spam etc, I think isn't really necessary having able the router's firewall.

Well if you shut down your firewall and still run the router. Then the ports will be the same.

I know that you can open ports in windows firewall, but you really need to open the port in the router to get connectable. The your utorrent can acces all peers.

What the name and model of your router? Are you sure it is not listed at Port Forwarding Guides Listed by Manufacturer and Model - PortForward.com ?
