Thread: Catch-22

Hi everyone,

I'm a complete newbie and keep coming up with the exact questions that aren't answered anywhere near by on the site. Please forgive me if they seem redundant or ridiculous. I've been searching around the forums for the last hour and still couldn't come up with an answer to this, just more things that confused me.

I just got a seed box a few days ago, before I realized that I need to be registered to a private tracker to use it. So I wound up on this site in the hopes of gaining an invite (not a lot, one would probably suffice). On the forums to apply for private trackers, there are requirements to post screen shots of ratio proofs. Here's the catch - if I can't download anything because I don't have a tracker, where can I get these ratios?

Side problem- I'm registered to demonoid. However, my seed box (ByteSized) doesn't consider it a private tracker. So I wouldn't be able to use it in conjunction with the seed box. Furthermore, I don't think my ratio on it is that great (.65).

What can I do? I really want to show to the private trackers that I'll be loyal, especially since I have a seed box (which I hear makes life a lot easier). But if I can't download anything because I don't have a tracker, how do I provide ratios to get a tracker?

i believe youve posted in a fine place but ive been wrong before ;)

your question is a legitimate one that does arise every now and again - luckily there is a solution. Most give aways on the site do require a proof of good ratio to prove that your going to be a good invitee, but there are some giveaways for more common trackers that are simply "just ask" meaning exactly that - you just have to ask (nicely of course!) for an invite and you'll hopefully receive it. These are usually in the 10% section i believe and arnt always marked so open a few threads and see if you can find one!

Next up although your seedbox provider may not count demonoid as a private tracker it can still be used for ratio proofs here! Thats the good news, the bad news is .65 isnt the best ratio, its not awful but it could be better! 1.0 or higher is what you should generally be shooting for.

A word of advice find a big general tracker thats easy to get into - usually the example suggested is IPT (IPTorrents).

First of all, yes this is the right section for asking question and we all know that the search function isn't perfect, but I appreciate your efforts in trying to find a solution there first.

We have an Opentracker section where trackers are listed that have currently open signup, this means that you can register without the need of an invitation and nearly all of them are still considered private trackers: Open Trackers and OpenTrackers - The place to look for open private trackers!

Because you are already an approved member you are allowed to apply for invites in the 10% section where you will find a lot of giveaways for newbies, most of the time with bonus-points (which you can exchange for upload credit) with no requirements.
But don't make the mistake and sign up for all the trackers that come across your way, but take a look at here first: Tracker Reviews

A ratio of over 1 is usually considered good, but the requirements vary from each inviter and you should take a look at here: Invite Giveaway Guide , before you start applying to trackers.

Last but not least, a seedbox is a great tool and helps you keeping a good ratio, but it's not everything. Because it seems like you are very new and inexperienced I would recommend you to take a look at here: Invite Giveaway Guide and here: The Popular Torrent Myth (the latter one is more technical though)

There is a open signup section where you can get sign-up on private trackers that have "currently" opened there trackers to open signup
This is by far the easiest way to get on to a few good ones.

Another BONUS point that goes in your favor is that, this is the the end of the year Christmas has just bid us goodbye. Normally lot of trackers open up for invites at this time of the year.

Another thing u could get into torrentleech aka TL and try out your seedbox for speed, as TL is an Excellent private tracker and tester of Seedboxes speeds.

I don't think I can add much to what has already been said...but i've been in your situation not so long ago and share what i've learnt:

1. There's an Open Trackers Section, there's OpenTrackers page showing current open trackers (button on top row near the Donate button) and there's Tracker Reviews - Read up properly and decide which trackers would be good to sign up to.

2. The 10% Giveaways always have many invites wich don't really require proof (e.g. IPT, FYT, etc) - just read reviews and then look at giveaways to see where you need to be for certain trackers. As mentioned, IPT is the best to get for starting with, i did and it's still my favourite tracker.

3. Always read the tracker rules before you start any downloading. Also find out what the situation is with regards to seedbox use, some trackers need you to notify a member of staff (may have to send them a PM with your IP). This will help: Tell these trackers about your seedbox (List)

4. Make sure you check out the Bit-torrent discussion, tutorials, and Seedbox tutorials sections for a lot of helpful info

Last bit of info on certain trackers:

IPTorrents (IPT) - Get this you won't be sorry, you should be able to get invite in 10% by asking. Will help to mention you have a seedbox (check out Invite Giveaway Guide on how to post a seedbox proof). Build up a good ratio there (which is easy) so you can use it to ask for other trackers.

Torrent Leech - is open for signup and is a good tracker BUT it's quite hard to seed at, especially in the early stages when you join due to waiting times and your inexperience could be a problem. Content is very similar to IPT so better off staying away for now.

TvTorrents.ru - currently open signup (check forum section). It's one of the best TV trackers for someone starting and also easy to keep a good ratio with a seedbox.

IPT and TvT have freeleech torrents which can help to easily build a good ratio (especially with seedbox). Read up (seedbox tutorials) if you don't know what freeleech is. Get on them early and it's very easy.

okay there are a few ways around your issue
1) you can check the open trackers and signup to a private tracker that way
2. you can look for any of the multiple giveaways on our forum that do not require for you to provide any ratio proofs for an invite
3) you can find a private tracker like say IPT that you can donate to and become a member
it is really up to you which direction you decide to proceed in but where there is a will there is a way, hope this answered your question

And since nobody mentioned it before , I would definitely say the tracker you want to join as soon as you can would be IPT.

A lot of people gave you advice who to get a private tracker. I'm going to give you advice what to do after you get in.
When you get in a private tracker, here is what you need to do first:
1. Read the rules very carefully. Read them twice if necessary. Actually, read everything informative like the FAQ. There are important things there that if you miss you might get banned.
2. Download something small and popular to see how difficult it is to seed and maintain a good ratio. Most trackers have an initial 5-10GB download in which the ratio rules don't apply, or they just give you 5-10GB upload after you register. Don't download large stuff initially, even with a seedbox. You might be confident in your upload speed, but it's uselss if nobody downloads the torrent or if there are already a lot of seeders with seedboxes.
3. Read the forums. Find an introduction thread and introduce yourself. Some useful information there and it's always nice to check the tracker community. There are sometimes invites for other trackers given to higher class members.
4. You might want to read about cross seeding. This is when you download something from a tracker and then seed it on another tracker. It's useful if you have trackers with similar content, but one of them releases stuff faster or it is easier to seed.
5. Get rid of the "download, use, delete" mentality. You need to seed a lot, sometimes for a long time. The only reason to delete something is hard drive space.
