Thread: DirectX Error: "DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason"

Hello everyone!

I am not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum section, but after reading the rules & over looking other thread titles on this forum, I think this should be the correct place.

Anywho, I am playing Battlefield 3 (BF3) on the PC. I've had this game since 0ctober, and have experienced nothing but issues...one after the other.

Lately, I can't play for more than 5-10min. on any server I join.
And I'm receiving this error: "DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: Device hung due to badly formed commands... GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580", Driver 28562"

So, I have been researching as much as possible on Google, and nothing has worked regarding this issue.

Additionally, I have upgrade the GPU driver from Nvidia's website to the 290 driver (latest Beta version). And still no luck.

Any of you that play or any computer techies that may have any instruction on how to fix this?

"Hey i think i managed to fix it.

1)after downclocking the core clock of the video card from 855 to 796Mhz - i Used the MSI Afterburner tool
2)and deleting all the DirectX files from the "origin games/battlefield 3/__Installer/directx/redist"
all CAB files. not the DLL and the exe.

3)Repaired the game in Origin

and been playing for few hours now without any troubles.

Lol. I followed all your recommendations & still have been experiencing the same stupid error...
I just hate the developers of this game like most of the people/customers do. Still mind boggles me how a huge company like this gets away with a half-assed created game & has it's been almost 4 months since release & still doesn't work for thousands of gamers...

Update:
The only thing I haven't followed as far as your observation is lowering the specs on my card. I've actually been playing it at stock settings, so don't see a reason to do this.
I purchased the GTX 580 when Dead Island came out, then used it for MW3. Both worked great at the highest settings.
Only BF3 has given me this issue...

The correct section for this is in the Help forum.
Hopefully someone will move it there.

On the report feature it says:

This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

So I thought that it's not for "less important" issues like posting in the wrong section of the forum.
