Default Computer Startup problem (get the following error) - Fatal error C0000034

Hello guys , its been a while since I've been on, but its great to see this place growing and going stronger every time i log on, and hopefully it expands further in the upcoming year/s.

Well guys i have this computer problem and its the first time that i encounter such a problem so im stumped and have no idea what to do, did reading here and there but after 2 days of trying I've gotten nowhere, and was hoping that one of you could help me out.The laptop that the error occurred on is my brother's and i wasn't there at the time it happened, but all he told me was that it said to update (windows update i believe) and he didn't pay attention and just clicked okay, so i cant give you the full reasons to the cause of the problem as i wasn't there like i said. And basically since then every time i turn the computer on, i receive this error:fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 162 of 70683 (...00000...)

Image to represent the error: Basically it stays on that screen and later on after attempting various stuff it just restarts every time after that screen.I have basically tried: Safe mode, System recovery, system restore, playing around with cmd prompt using this link as a guide: Fixing the "Fatal Error C0000034..." Error When Installing Win7 SP1 - Spiceworks Community with no result, even tried a reformat with windows 7 bootable CD i made (that worked on installing windows 7 on various computers in my household, so i can confirm the CD works) and a bootable USB copy and get "could not find bootmgr" (or something along those lines). So basically im out of ideas, i always use reformat as my last draw card and its never failed me until now.Called a family friend technician he said something about trying to reformat without using an operating system CD, mentioning stuff like Fdisk and Gdisk, terms I'd never heard of. So googled about them but didn't really understand them well. Then while googling came across DBAN and at this point in time i was willing to use anything to get the laptop back up and running. So made a bootable USB copy using this guide: Create Bootable USB Flash Drive for Windows 7 or Vista Netbook Install - YouTube and it didn't work when i tried it on the laptop (and yes i did set the boot configurations to USB), so then got another copy of DBAN (
dban-1.0.7_i386.exe which basically writes the files to the USB [automatic way as opposed to the manual method in the youtube video above]) but got the "error writing file ldlinux.sys" so it also doesn't work.

And thats basically where i sit, tired, bruised but yet not beaten
. I tried quite alot as you can see and now don't know what to do anymore. I figured I'd ask the wonderful people at T-I and if it doesn't work out then I'll go to the technician, but I always enjoy trying to fix the problem myself as its a learning experience
    .
So do you guys know any program that i could use on a bootable USB or bootable CD (I don't have floppy disks) that would reformat the HDD partitions or do you have any other advice for me?If you have read this far down into my problem I already can't thank you enough for taking the time to read through my problem and truly appreciate it. Thank you is all i could say
    .

As above. Connect the drive to another computer to pull the files you want to keep if they're not backed up, do a proper format of the disk and start from scratch.

IIRC the above tool plays well with mounted ISO files, you might want to grab a SP1 version of w7 since you're starting over. Might also be a good idea to diagnose the disk to try and figure out what happened, ideally with SpinRite or at least chkdsk.

hi Majid :) could not find bootmgr, i think is because from bios settings the laptop is still trying to boot from hard drive, so if you try to enter bios and look through tabs and find something like boot? cant think now but you can change that to tell the pc what to boot from like 1st 2nd boot etc... then later you can go back in and change 1st boot back to drive, take care though what you do change in bios and note it:) i am thinking if you have tried everything you have said it leads me to believe it is a hardware problem! starting with hard drive and ram. but try changing settings in bios and try boot from cd first and see what happens changing ram and hd in lappy should be easy enough good luck m8 and lets us know how you go:)

"BOOTMGR is missing" --> like this image:

So im not sure if it will make a difference but will give it a shot anyway, thanks =].

Thanks fge, and please read the above reply. Therefore I don't think it would do much to try out the program LibChamp mentioned.
Though you did raise a good point about moving the hard drive out of the laptop and testing it else where which isn't something that i thought of but unfortunately i don't know how to remove the HDD on the laptop as its not as easy as the desktop one.

Therefore creating another bootable copy of windows 7 doesn't seem like a viable option to me, but not the less I guess trying couldn't harm, so i'll give it a shot.

Once again thanks for posting =].

Thanks for the post Graphic. Are you talking about changing the boot option as in like to CD drive or USB from the BIOS setting, as I tried that, and changed it to the appropriate setting and got the "BOOTmgr is missing" message.

Yeah i too was beginning to think that it was that the HDD had gone faulty or something, but yeah will try to work it and if it doesn't I send it over to the technician. I just wanted to post to see if someone had encountered the same problem before or if someone had any ideas.

    Thanks again graphic =].

Are the drives in the correct order in your boot sequence? Check in your BIOS to be sure either the optical drive or the USB drive (depending on what you are booting from) is set before your usual boot partition.

As for pulling the drive from the laptop, what model is it?

Im fairly certain that i place the boot sequence correctly and chose the appropriate option when using the CD or USB but I guess i will double check and try again.

As for the model its a Dell Inspiron 1440.

Also I apologize guys if i don't respond soon, its quite late here (1:30 am) and im fairly tired so im off to sleep and will hopefully reply back tomorrow.

    For pulling the disk:

When connected to another computer do a full format after backing up. You might want to check if there is a recovery partition on the disk with the OEM version of Windows on it, it will save you a lot of headaches since laptops have a bunch of proprietary drivers which are always fun to hunt down.
