I have a question or two, what OS are you useing? (Im thinking of Win XP and max connections).
What are your max connection in windows? Do you know cFosSpeed? It works for me, you should check it out.

    What is cFosSpeed?

cFosSpeed is a network driver, which attaches itself to existing Internet connections. It then optimizes data transfer by means of Traffic Shaping.Traffic Shaping is a method for optimizing the Internet traffic. It allows maximum speed while ensuring minimal Ping. You can use cFosSpeed with a router and/or a DSL-modem or cable-modem. You can also use cFosSpeed with other types of Internet access, ie. whenever you already have an existing Internet connection.cFosSpeed supports a wide variety of connections, like DSL, cable, ISDN, UMTS, WIMAX etc.cFosSpeed has two goals
    1. Keep network delays (ping times) small, in order to make Internet applications as responsive as possible.
    2. Improve data throughput by avoiding network congestions.
You can use cFosSpeed with an Internet connection you use exclusively or which you share with several PCs.

cFos is indeed a practical little piece of software. I bought a lifetime license years ago, which was a good investment compared to the time and effort of having to hunt down cracked versions of updates all the time. Other good suggestions were:

Increase the maximum number of halpf-open TCP/IP connections by patching Event ID 4226 in TCPIP.SYS. I uploaded the necessary tools to a couple alternative file hosts (CS, 1F, Dl4, GU, eD) for your convenience, but be aware that you will probably get an alarm from your security software. That is just a false positive, triggered by the fact that the patch modifies a Windows system file, so do not panic, please.

Afterwards, throttle the maximum down- and upload speeds in your BitTorrent client to no more than 80% of your maximum throughput. If you want to download other software with your browser while surfing, decrease the maximum numbers for BT even further.

Tips for configuring your router can be found at Port Forwarding Guides Listed by Manufacturer and Model - PortForward.com. If none of these tips help, post as detailed a description as possible here and we will try to take it from there.

What Kyllah and QuiPeccavit are referring to is a limit to the number of simultaneous connections that your OS will allow. Most OS will not have a limit or at least not one that would impact your torrents in any meaningful way. However after the Sasser worm mess, Microsoft quietly put some limits into place on some versions of windows to limit the impact of worms. These changes were largely transparent to end users.. unless of course you torrent.

If I recall, the "half open TCP" limit was changed to 10 connections in Windows XP SP2. Which is ridiculously low for someone who torrents. So, it is one more thing that you can check for. If it was my system, I'd change the ~ 10 limit to 500. But of course don't forget to keep your malware and antivirus utilities up to date as well.

(applicable if u are using u torrent) just control your upload and download limit, just reduce it by 100 kbps from what u are seeding and uploading, this will help u in in keeping buffer for your surfing requirements. (I did not read all the above post, but i posted as by suggestion, hope this helps u, it helps me, i do the same).

What is that? Please provide a link or more information. Your post doesn't make sense. I can't find any information on Google.

He means Norton 360º Security Suite, if I am not mistaken. It's not really related to the initial poster's question but of course, ports need to be opened/forwarded not only in the router, but also in Windows' firewall (accessible via the Control Panel) and any third party firewall that has been installed on the computer. More information on different anti-virus and firewall suites or malware cleaners can be found in this post.

Speaking of security in general or browser configuration in particular, you want to take a look at CSS and JavaScript Exploits, because the scripts in the first chapter work in all browsers, not only with the one red ring that rules them all. In the first paragraph of the second chapter, there is an important notice about backdoors in a popular add-on for Mozilla's browser that many Firefox users are not aware of, and in the last paragraph, there is a security comparison of all web browsers. Consequently, it may be worth taking a look at that post even if you have not seen the light yet and still use a different navigator than Opera as your default web browser.
