can i ask how you watching the video on your tv?

    1. portable hard drive ( USB)
    2. Connected your computer to the tv ( hdmi ,etc)
    3. or anyway ( please explain what your are using, try to provide me with a image or link)

This is what you should do,

Make a folder name it, Vide0

Put both the movie and the soft subtitle into the folder named Vide0

Next change the name of the movie to Samira1.mkv

Next change the name of the subitle to Samira1.srt

Now test to see if the video work with the subtitle before trying it on your t.v

If it works then drag the vide0 folder into your portable hard drive and see if it works.

If the video work and the subtitle doesn't then you may need to use your Samsung remote to see the subtitles on.

    -----------------------------

Just amke sure the video name and the subtitle name are the same.

    Example:

first of all, i'm surprised that samsung series 5 supports mkv playback....
Can you confirm if your TV can play mkv file without any subtitles? (if it does, will recommend you to hardcode the subs onto the movie then).
So just try playing without the subtitle...

Putting a subs file into an mkv container doesn't hardcode the subs, it just makes them available as part of the file if your player supports them. In order to hardcode the subs you have to reencode the video stream. Depending upon your hardware it could take a loooooong time to do this. When you do the subs will permanantly be burned into the film, you can't get rid of them or switch them off and on, hence they're hardcoded.

You'd need to use a tool such as MegUI .
MKV2VOB may also do what you require.

My LED doesnt even play MKV. Only .avi + they wont do subtitles too. I guess certain TV need to have their own codec. You still lucky can play .mkv on your TV compare to mine.
