Default How to handle people who get disabled for inactivity

    Hi mates,

i'd like to open a debate around neg repping and negative igiver.
I invited someone 2 weeks ago and his account doesn't show any sign of activity since, he probably will get disabled in the near future.

I searched all the threads related to that question and couldn't find any clear ruling adressing this issue.

As an Inviter, can you neg rep someone who got disabled for bad ratio or inactivity ?
As an Inviter, can you leave an negative igiver to someone who got disabled for inactivity ?
If yes, should there be a limit of time, let's say, you're allowed to leave a negative igiver for someone who got banned in less than a year ?

I understand that as an invitee, you can be disappointed when joining a new tracker but imo you should at least keep the account alive for sometime or the invite as just gone to waste.

    So, what youse think ?

    Cheers

You can't give negative rep anymore, only positive. I guess negative rep got disabled as people were abusing it too much. And you can leave, and I'd encourage people to do so, a negative igiver if your invitee got disabled.

Trevor said it. There is no neg rep anymore. As for the negative iGiver, it is always an option. Just select "Inviter" instead of "receiver".
I think I only gave one so far, and it was because I invited a user who never used his account, not a single kb of traffic after a few months.

the above is correct and I would have to say to wait until the invitee gets pruned for inactivity or disabled for bad ratio before I leave the negative igiver

Unfortunately I don't think bucky can see this thread any longer. Just letting you guys know, not saying that it shouldn't be discussed, just that he will not be able to view your replies.

    Cheers

Moving this to Help, where everyone can discuss it. It should be opened to the whole forum.

Personally, I think we should bring negative rep back. I think it helps combat rep inflation and should be used in instances like this.

As to whether you can leave a negative iGiver to someone who lost their account due to inactivity, the answer is yes. I would, however, be a bit lenient with this, especially with new torrenters who are eager to get a bunch of trackers all at once and don't understand the amount of time it takes to maintain. I would PM the person and ask why they lost the account, and judge from their response (and whether you believe them to be sincere) before you decide to flag them with neg rep/iGiver. But that's just me. Its up to the individual of course.

I think three months is a fair amount of time for a person to fully evaluate a tracker, make use of the invite, and see whether its for them. A year is definitely too long.

Just wanted to ask staff a question:

I've read a couple of places that it's understandable that when you get an invite to a tracker you may realise it's not for you even after reading the reviews if 1 is available...hence we're told to let it be pruned for inactivity...

So where do we draw the line? what is sensible thing to do to avoid getting negative iGivers?

I think the rule should be defined so everyone knows where they stand...i.e. A receiver has to ensure they keep their account for X months...if pruned after that for inactivity then no negative iGiver can be given..

    This is a good question.

I always write in my threads that if you do not follow tracker rules, then you get a negative iGiver. I got this advice on irc or in the chat box recently.
About to become inactive, I do not know whether they should have a negative iGiver. But I think you as invitee should be careful who you give the "precious" trackers to.

As a new user on the forum, I believe you have a tendency to gather available trackers. Maybe we should just pay more attention to it?
It can be a good idea to say a member must have been a member for at least one month in order to participate in a give away.

    Just my two cents.

I think there is no line to be drawn, you got disabled, you wasted your inviter time and sometimes money, so he has all the right to leave a bad igiver and if it comes back, a negative rep.
It is your responsability to know what trackers you want, being disabled is your fault and you made your inviter look bad, there is no "i didn't know" on this. You got disabeld, you face the consequences. The aceptable time of activity is up to your inviter, be it a month, be it an year.
Respect your inviters wishes or don't ask for it.

People should start answering for their own acts, and if the bad igiver and negative rep have been used properlly maybe we woldn't be seeing the huge sheep-joining there is today with every tracker that has the spotlights for some time.

    Fractal...I understand where your comming from...but i don't agree.

Theres not always enough info on trackers to be able to know what your getting into..and when there is...it could still turn out to be different than expected as the info is peoples opinions usually.
As a noob on trackers it can be quite difficult finding out which 1s are good for you and what you like about trackers and what you don't...I try only to apply for fewest trackers as possible but sometimes you expect 1 thing from a tracker and it's not quite that..hence you might not want to stick around

Not every invite is wasting time and money...especially the 10% giveaways tend to be unlimited invites so theres no wasting invites on those really...do the same rules then apply?

I understand getting into a higher level tracker where invites are rarely given and abusing that by applying and then not being active is bad...

Also...when you get the higher level trackers...they tend to be an upgrade to your existing ones so it's kind of hard to stay active at both at both sometimes hence the need to maybe let one go...
