Thread: general advise

I have a rather general question in mind.

I come from the free world. My daily tv-show fix I get usually satisified by public trackers, some rarities I can get off usenet. Movies are even easier to find.

What I'm unable to find easily are ebooks in mobi or epub format. Enough of PDF content out there, but I'd prefer mobi or epub. I've seen some nice trackers advertised here under the E-Learning tag. But I'm pretty good stocked with non-fiction books. I'm looking for fiction and novels, both in english and german. I know where to get them in PDF, but alas, I'd rather have them in epub.

So this is basically my background. What puzzles me is how to find my tracker. I heard some good advise that I shouldn't register with every tracker possible and lurk around but try to find the one and embrace it. I like the idea, but how should I find it when I can't register and peak around? The reviews here are a gread start, but they don't tell the whole story. I tried some of the introduced trackers here but they weren't the one I've been looking for. How do I tell them that they're not the one?

I'm very grateful for the invites and I feel obliged to keep my part of the deal. But is there an easy way out? I don't want to cause trouble for the providers or the trackers. Can I just send a message to the tracker admins and say that I'm out and no harm is done?



There are some questions hidden in this post that I'd like to find an answer for. I hope you can help me on some of them :)

If you're looking for e-books a great tracker is MyAnonamouse, It has alot of categories for different kinds of books from every genre. I would recommend this as it is aimed more for people that read books for a hobby compared to say other trackers which maybe leaning more towards e-learning.

Also it has a good range of audio books and also to answer your question they have them in all the formats you need :)

Here is a review, also it is quite easy to find an invite under the 10% invites forum so you shouldn't have a problem finding an invite.

Also don't worry about registering for some trackers and then finding out its not for you. We have all been there and sometimes its the best way to find out what you need.

Yeh I know what you mean and how you feel, I guess the best way really is to check reviews and also check the tracker recruitment thread too as those invites are from sysops usually of whichever tracker is recruiting so you don't have to worry about someone wasting an invite.

Also sometimes its good to have a choice incase one tracker doesn't have something you need, so aslong as you don't go crazy asking for an invite to every tracker available it's usually not too hard to maintain them.

P.S - also as it's up to the inviter to give you the invite you shouldn't worry also, you seem like an honest individual so aslong as you tell the person your intentions everything will be ok.

Sure, I'm trying to get to know all there is about a tracker before I run for an invite. But often there's really not much information out there about a super-elite tracker. So I'm left with join-and-quit sessions mostly. Good to know that I'm not the only one. And that it is not expected from me to know exactly what I'm looking for before I see it.

One last question though. Do you agree that the best way out of a tracker is to just let the account die slowly?

Hmm that's a tough one really, Yeh I would say the best way is to let your account be pruned for inactivity that way if someone does say that you never used an invite it would be for inactivity rather than cheating etc which would be WAYY worse and you would be banned from here, but also remember inviters could also give you a negative iGiver for using an invite and not using the account so it works both ways.

Also with many trackers you can "park" your account which means you won't get banned for inactivity for a certain period so if you do decide that you won't use a tracker for a while I would suggest that you park it.

Yes. Simple.

I would say after having got an invite...then yeah let it expire slowly or the inviter will be pissed for wasting his invite....they might forget or not care by the time your account is deleted for inactivity (not sure if they are informed or anything tho)

Sometimes trackers aren't what your looking for initially but could end up becoming better so you'll still have some time to poke around there.

I would say...make sure while your there you stick to the rules and ensure your ratio is not a problem before you let your account be pruned....don't want it pruned for the wrong reasons.

Where you get the pdfs from?

Also, i seem to prefer pdfs...but i'm not very experienced with e-books...so why mobi or epub? why do you find them better and what application you use for them?

I have an immense collection of epub books. My Calibre (if you don't already have this free database manager for your electronic library, get it now!) libraries total over 12000 books, primarily fiction. All of that was sourced from Demonoid. The community there for ebooks is very large - NYT Bestsellers are uploaded in both epub and mobi formats on a weekly basis. My last collection included quite a few auf Deutsch as well...You can browse demoinoid without being a member to see for yourself. Now I know people here don;'t consider demonoid elite enough - but that huge membership = a lot of ebooks and audiobooks.

MyAnonymouse is on my target list for invites for ebooks and audiobooks - it seems a good fit. When I have some time I'll look for an invite.

Don't feel bad if you don't find a site to your liking. There are plenty to choose from, and you will be very grateful when you find one where you feel at home.
