    Default Creating torrents with RuTorrent

Hello people , i have a big question , why when i'm creating torrents with rutorrent the size of the .torrent are so big?
For example if the content of the torrent is 20gb , my .torrent will have almost 3mb , and is too much if u ask me...i don't know maybe i don't have the rutorrent configured well.
    Any solution to that?

    Thanks

Sounds like your piece size is set wrong.
It should be auto or i just leave it at 256.
Ideally check the faq/rules at your chosen tracker some state auto some others may state something else. Also, if your creating a torrent for a private tracker check the box too before you upload it. .

Is already set to 256kb , and I always check the box with Private Torrent (because is a private tracker)
But the .torrent file is too big.

Then set it to bigger chunks. You can go to 16MB with ruTorrent. The bigger the chunk size, the fewer the chunks, and therefore the smaller the torrent file.

Also if you are creating a torrent to upload and cross seed, it is always handy to use a different chunk size to the original, as it will differentiate the torrents, and you don't have to give it a different name.

The time determining factors in creating .torrents and also hash checking them are the specs of your seedbox, so the only way to speed them up would be to get a server/VPS with more RAM and a better, or dedicated, CPU, as well as less people on the harddrive.

If you have SSH/root access you can use the command line tool mktorrent, which speeds up the typing part drastically. If you want to use it:

    mktorrent -a http://tracker.hehe:80/announce.php -p /home/your_username/The.Folder.You.Selected
    Your options:
-a <url>[,<url>]* : specify the full announce URLs
    at least one is required
    additional -a adds backup trackers
    -c <comment> : add a comment to the metainfo
    -d : don't write the creation date
-h : show this help screen
-l <n> : set the piece length to 2^n bytes,
    default is 18, that is 2^18 = 256kb
-n <name> : set the name of the torrent,
default is the basename of the target
-o <filename> : set the path and filename of the created file
    default is <name>.torrent
-p : set the private flag
    -t <n> : use <n> threads for calculating hashes
    default is 2
    -v : be verbose
    -w <url>[,<url>]* : add web seed URLs
    additional -w adds more URLs
It will still need about hte same time to create the torrent, but it will speed up the process a lot, because you don't always have to open the required windows, select the files, etc ...

If you have the files locally you can make the torrent on your home PC then upload the torrent file to your box and point it at the files there, but other than that as per Magister's post, you are limited by your seedbox spec.
