    Default A Few Concerns...

#1 I recently had to witch ISP's because I received two letters saying I was in danger of a lawsuit because of illegal downloading.

    How can this happen?

I THOUGHT my uTorrent program was set up good enough to not have this happen.

#2 Is peer block good? Is there another way/program that does something like this?

#3 How do I get my ratio up. I have a warning on IPT that I have to get it up? Do I let torrents I complete stay in the program?

I usually just right click and remove.

    Hi.
Take a look at this thread. It will answer some of the questions you have. I found it a fairly good read about torrenting habbits.
    Just a suggestion...

In it your read about how these letters that are send are nearly always automated. I get one before saying I was downloading too much. I just threw it in the bin and never heard back. Nothing changed.

(Make sure DHT network and peers exchange are disabled in your torrent program if you havent already)

It sounds like your downloading from a home connection. Consider buying a seedbox for your torrenting needs. No more angry letters, and you wont have to leave your computer on for crazy amount of time just to seed back.
Read up about it in the seedbox section of the forum.

This biggest problem is your seeding ratio. Make sure you seed 1:1 or higher. Big thing is, you need to keep the torrents seeding even when your done with it.
Again seedbox is great here but also easily done on a home connection.

These questions have all been answered multiple times, but I can provide you a couple of links. If you still have any questions afterwards you can f course always ask.

Peerblock and all those services that relay on blocking certain IPs are only as good as their ban list and it has to be updated regularely. You also have to keep in mind that the authorities aren't stupid, ergo peer block and other programs are useless, especially on private trackers.

You always have to keep your files seeding until you at least reach a ratio of 1:1 on them, but the rules can vary on each tracker.

So I am seeing that IPT is not a goor tracker, and that's the site I d'led from when I got the letter.

What is in FACT the best tracker?

IPT is a great site for newbies, because it's the easiest to keep a ratio, it's also the tracker with probably the most content (or one of them)

Everybody has a different definition of 'best tracker'. What do you looking for in a tracker?

IPT and Torrent leech are known to have been "infiltrated".
I would get peerguard, go to another tracker, and get a decent VPN service.

You do realize that VPNs and proxy are banned at nearly all trackers, as well as on T-I. If you use on you will defnitely be banned.
Also, as mentioned before, peeguardian and other services like that are useless, because the IPs change too frequently and the filters aren't updated enough.
You just need to use the usual security methods (logless VPN, server as seedbox, encrypted traffic, encrypted drives ... depending on how paranoid you are)

I didn't say I use a VPN.. I live in a almost free copyright country as well (somewhere in africa). I don't need to use vpn/peer guard.

I just said it would give you secruity. You can also use a seedbox to download torrents and download to your computer. This method is almost 100% safe.

I don't think you can use a VPN service on a private tracker. A lot of them have as a rule that you have to use your own ip address. I am glad i live in the Netherlands where it is (almost) a fundamental right to have internet and that copyright agencies don't go after individual users but people behind the trackers (not that i am totally happy about that but its better than me getting a lawsuit).
