Default Noob help - general questions

    Hi,

Just managed to get my first private tracker - Freshon.tv

Just a couple of questions which probs sound silly but need to make sure so I don't get in trouble.

Their seeding req is 1:1 or 24hrs

So if i stop a torrent then restart it again later it won't mess up the timer (24hr thing), I just gotta make sure i don't delete the torrent right?
and if by mistake I do delete it then is it possible to get the torrent again and resume seeding or will the 24hr timer reset?

Secondly, to fulfill the 1:1 ratio req on half leech file would mean have to seed half the size or full file size? (say 100MB file would have to seed 50MB or 100MB?)

    Thanks for helping me understand.

Their seeding req is 1:1 or 24hrs -> this mean when you get ratio 1:1 you can stop the torrent. this also mean that when you get 24h seed time you can also stop your torrent even if you don't have 1:1 ratio.

So if i stop a torrent then restart it again later it won't mess up the timer (24hr thing), I just gotta make sure i don't delete the torrent right?

No it won't. The timer count your seed time. If you seed for 5 h and than stop the torrent and start it again you will have to seed only 19 h more.

and if by mistake I do delete it then is it possible to get the torrent again and resume seeding or will the 24hr timer reset?

You need to redownload the torrent and seed it for what the seed time is left. You can all view in your seed time in your profile (click on your username -> Completed (view list))

Secondly, to fulfill the 1:1 ratio req on half leech file would mean have to seed half the size or full file size? (say 100MB file would have to seed 50MB or 100MB?)

All torrents need to be fully seeded this mean as much you download that much you need to seed. If you download 100 MB you need to seed 100 MB even if the torrent is freeleech of half leech.

there's usually a time limit in which you have to excess the 24h seeding time. varies by trackers but it's usually around 1 week.

the 24h time limit wont be reset if you accidentaly delete the files. just re-download and seed it to the required time (if you don't hit the 1:1 ratio).

should be 1:1 with the original file size - the part/full freeleech doesn't matter.

It has been basically all said, but I still think it's important to note that when you redownload the torrent it will still count against your ratio, because some people make the mistake and forget that.
Also when something is freeleech (download count 0% upload 100%) you still have to fullfill all the seeding and ratio requirements of the specific tracker.

If you need help feel free to PM me, but keep in mind that asking for an invite is not considered help.

It should also be noted that if you seed for 5h and then 19h.. You must close your torrent client properly so that ALL torrents update the trackers with your accurate stats prior to exiting the torrent client. If you get a BSOD or something crazy, you may lose 20 minutes of seeding credit. Most torrents will talk with the trackers every 30 minutes.

I would probably setup uTorrent to do all this for me, if that's the client you are using.

Default Err on the Side of Caution

    Last but not least ...

As a new member or newbie to torrents in general, it might be wise to simply keep seeding as much as you can for as long as you can, at least until having read and understood a tracker's rules, FAQ and "call for help" posts. If you ride too hard before the wind right from the beginning, only fulfilling the minimum requirements, it shows that you are basically a leecher who only complies with the rules to avoid getting banned. At least during the warm-up phase, you might want to demonstrate being a faithful follower of the "spirit", as overused, unnecessary and exaggerated the interpretation of that stereotype may often be.

In a nutshell, better err on the side of caution until you know your way around, instead of trying to figure out how you can get away with the least effort right from the start -- especially if you were invited and and that friendly person's fate may depend on your behaviour, too.
