    Default memory issues

Hi guys well i finally upgraded my pc the bits i got were theese

    mobo
    Asus AM3 M4A87TD/USB Socket AM3 Motherboard - 90-MIBCM5-G0EAY0WZ - CCL Computers

    cpu
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Quad Core Processor - HDZ965FBGMBOX - CCL Computers

    memory
    Corsair 4GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Module - CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 - CCL Computers

now i fitted it all together as stated in manual and all went well installed win 7 64bit and did a win experience test and was quite satisfied to see 7.4 for cpu and 7.5 for memory also fully registered 8gb. However for some reason i have opened task manager and the memory usage is permanently stuck on 44% it may go up 1% every now and again which means its using nearly 4gb of ram and no way does everything in task manager add up to 4gb

whats annoying me the most is my old rig was an athlon2 x4 2.6 with 5 gb memory ddr2 800 and that never used more than 30% unless i encoded a film im too scared to with this as it will eat it. Am i been paranoid or have i not set something up right i would be greatful for any assistance i may get.

would it just be easier to buy another 8gb of ram just so it doesnt use so much as im broke now and really no better off

Thats actually pretty close to what i get with minimal background tasks or running programs. If your browser window is open, close it and check memory usage. i find that it seems to make more of a difference than anything else, but i tend to have a lot of tabs open, like now i have 21 tabs open in chrome, with 8GB ram i'm using 65% if i close the browser completely it drops to about 40%

Do not worry about this. Windows 7 memory management is kind of strange compared to previous OS's. As well as actual memory being actively used by processes, you also have standby memory. Windows 7 will load standby memory, using a superfetch type functionality, and release that memory if your active processes start to run out of RAM for themselves.

I won't pretend to know the exact workings, but you will always see a lot more RAM in use, than is actually in use.

I have a Quad Core with 8GB memory. I don't know if this will help you, but I was sitting at 26% with only Win7 and 9 desktop gadgets running. Now I'm at 34% with several applications open. Including Outlook, FireFox with 3 tab groups and 34 tabs, 9 desktop apps, Putty [SSL tunnel], Deluge [client], Excel w/small spreadsheet [26KB], a couple of Explorer windows open, and BitKinex [SFTP].
I just disabled most of the Areo functionality, and went to Windows Basic theme with a solid background. Seemed to help somewhat. Try it and see if it helps you.

i def agree with this, same crap was happening to me. Also realize how big of a memory req windows 7 has. I wouldn't worry to much about this, i took a lot of programs off startup and edited my video card settings and performance settings to help with memory and bandwith issues.
