    Default Online Movie Scrapers...

    Hey Guys,

Are there any cool online movie scrapers out there that can scan a share or a HDD and download movie art, fan art, poster, ratings from IMDB, or a movie datacase? I am looking to scan my drive and start using it as a media share across my lan. All i am looking for is something fast and easy that i can install and run on my pc. Afterwards i would like to access the media across the lan with a couple of media players i have at home.

    Thanks!

You may be looking for something like XBMC XBMC

"XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media."

It has some good options on how to stream over your WAN. For one, it has a built in UPnP server and client. It has a TV and Movie scraper built in. I haven't actually used the scraper but it likely works fine. XBMC is really the state of the art for digital media playing software.

I use Plex, which is VERY good, on my mini mac. I can scan a network drive and it automatically gets all the cover information and descriptions. If you open the correct ports on your router you can install Plex on your IPhone or IPad and watch a TV program or film from your computer while your on the train or wherever!

I can't imagine it can't stream large files? Is the streaming secure? I'm always hesitant to open up insecure paths up in my computer.

It can stream those 10gb .mkv hd movies over my network much better than vlc. I don't know if their streaming outside of the network is secure you would need to check their documentation and they have a forum as well I think. You could always choose not to open the required ports and just use it for your htpc inside your local network, but you should definately check it out and make your own mind up. :)

I stream 1080p MKV over my network (hardwired) to Plex (for my upstairs Mac media server) and downstairs to my XBMC (windows media server) perfectly fine. I've become fond of "themoviedb" as my scraper for movies (as opposed to IMDB) and "thetvdb" for television shows. I have never had a movie it couldn't pick up :)

Yes 1080p what RaNCID said.. I'd also like to add that you would need 1 Gbps local network speed for smooth playback. I only had a 100 Mbps router but I was able to save some money by buying a 1 Gbps switch instead of a 1 Gbps router when I upgraded my home network for precisely this reason.

Kitkatra, I've experienced no issues with 100mbps local links. Yes, 1Gbps would be optimal, but it can be accomplished comfortably with 100mbps links :)
