    Default CSS Hack

Hello. I'm new. Will typing "about:blank" or config, addons, etc... into the address bar and then go to or from this site work for the CSS hack, the referrer, both or niether? I am also new to my third private tracker. To get a good ratio, I am outside seeding (I don't know if that's the correct term. I am dling the file elsewhere and then the torrent from the private tracker, re-checking the file and then uling to the private tracker). This requires me to keep my browser open until the outside file is finished. Before this I would go to one site at a time, then close FF because it will bloat due to the many tabs I open, and then re-open FF to go to another site. I only go to another site from a direct link in the site I am on. That habit worked until I started working on this new tracker.

Also, I have gotten History Block, Hide My Ass, configured the "about:config" added TI to the HB blacklist and told my browser to Forget About this Site in the History itself. Did I miss something or is that it?

This is a great site. Thanks.

You can find detailed information about the CSS hack here. Some browsers do not have this vulnerability. That link describes which ones do and how you can protect yourself and test your browser.

The term for seeding (the same) torrent from one tracker to another is "cross seeding". It's a great way to build ratio. But don't forget to read the tracker's rules and FAQ first. There are a few trackers that don't allow cross seeding.

Hello copper. I have read that thread. I took a week to do only that. I was wondering if I got it or not. Plus, the thread is closed and I have some questions which may or may not be relevant. I don't know, I am not as capable as you all are. But, I do think. That's why I asked about the "about:xxx". No one mentions using it as a jump point between sites. It might block the referrer and we never have to click any link, for the CSS (just in case of a future exploit).Other things not mentioned are Bookmarks, Recently Closed Windows and Tabs and site settings for add-ons. Again, I don't know if these are pertinant to the CSS discussion, but they may be relevant to security.

About the tracker, they encourage cross seeding, especially for newbies. They have 4 survival tips, that's one of them.

Thanks for the reply and my first thread.

As I understand it, if you manually type an address into the address bar then your browser will not populate the referrer header field, so there is no need to visit about:blank. The only time the referrer header is populated is when you click on a hyperlink to your destination.

Many torrent sites use an anonymiser to pass links through in order to mask their url.

You can see if a site is routing based on referrer using Rex Swain's httpview tool which can be found here: Rex Swain's HTTP Viewer

If you had specific questions about the CSS hack link, you should post them here. If you simply found it confusing, perhaps a language issue.. then a good option is to just use a separate browser for TI and your trackers. This avoids any issues to start with and quite a few TI members use that approach.
