Thread: Newbie Question re: using seedbox

Hello all, I'm brand new to torrenting, and just have a quick question about Seedbox Procedures. I created a seedbox at Whatbox.ca - which I found to be one of the easiest pre-configured ones for newbies...but there's STILL no "how to". So I basically figured it out myself with a lot of trial and error.
What I'd like to ask all of you is...IS this basically the "procedure" for using a Seedbox...then a follow up question:
I go online to my private tracker, download the torrent....which automatically opens up Transmission on my Mac....I CLOSE
that, and just upload that torrent to my online Transmission associated with my seedbox account. Then when it's done, I ftp the file back to my mac?

If so...I'm super curious about something....how does that affect my seed ratio at the Tracker? ie: how in the world does my Tracker "know" that I'm seeding when it's being done "offsite"?

Each user has a unique key which is being associated with downloaded torrents. A tracker tracks torrents literally.

That's quite rare but for some tracker you need to login with the IP of your seedbox, that's why some seedbox providers have proxy in their offer.

You can streamline the process a little.

I have my browser configured to download torrent files instead of opening them. I then use hazel (software) to watch the download folder for torrent files. When it sees one it automatically uploads it to the seedbox. This is easier if you have a "watch" folder you can scp or ftp torrent files into, but it's not impossible to do it other ways.

What software is your seedbox host running? iirc there used to be a plugin for firefox that could handle most of the popular ones.
