Default Looking for online back-up service

I am looking for a online back-up company that doesn't mind that i put copyright material (movies, tv shows and comics) on their servers. Its all for personal use and i have no intention of ever sharing my files with anyone else. As of right now i have about 74 terabyte of data on my 2 nas systems that i want to put in his entirely on these servers.

Does anyone know a back-up company that can let me do that? The files have to be accessible through a network drive so i can link them to my mediaplayer xbmc if needed. The maximum file size has to be at least 20 gigabyte.

Assuming you want to stream the data through xbmc, you are gonna be paying HUGE $$ for this. You essentially want a box with really fast upload (so you can stream off it) and a ton of storage space (80TB? Hardware alone is going to be $2k+). You're either going to spend thousands of dollars a month or pay couple thousand upfront for a serverand pay another couple hundred a month to put in a datacenter.

Fast access, Large space, Cheap. Pick two.

Fast Access, Cheap = seedbox. Large space, Cheap = carbonite, mozy, backblaze. Fast access, Large space = colocation with a very nice server

Thanks for the list, but has anyone any experience with carbonite, mozy or backblaze? I hate to upload everything and find out 2 weeks later that they say i violated their agreements and everything i uploaded has been deleted.

The mediaplayer thing is not something i really need. I can do without that. After all its just for back-up.

One other thing, i prefer that the servers are in Europe, if possible in the Netherlands. I live in the Netherlands so that would make sense.

Unless you have a fast upload speed it will take ages to upload this to servers.
tentonwire has already mentioned correctly that you have to pay a lot of money for this kind of solution.
I assumed that a 100MBits connection is sufficient.

That's an offer from OHV /France with 4*2TB and you will probably need 10 of them. It's the cheapest solution I have found and it's still, in my opinion, extremely expensive: Fiche serveur dédié Superplan Storage - OVH It's kind of a low 'budget' and server, but for what you want it perfect.

Leaseweb operator of the Dutch Datacenter EvoSwitch in Amsterdam. It's known to have the best upload speeds in the world and the peering to you will be excellent.
Rapidspeeds is an reseller and the buy a large ammount of server only to resell them cheaper than Leaseweb does:
It's a 12*1TB server with a 100MBits connection link, but with 32GB RAM. This server is from far superior quality, but it has also it's price. You will probably need about 6 of those. RapidSpeeds - 1Gbps .NL Dedicated Servers - No bandwidth caps
There are also some other European providers, but those are the most popular ones.

I only included servers in my reply, because the online backup companies I know charge already a couple of $/€/GBP per GB and this will be the least flexable and most expensive solution.
With a server you will obviously get root access and can install whatever you want.

If you need help feel free to PM me, but keep in mind that asking for an invite is not considered help.

most backup services encypt the data at your end, so should be no concern there, and I think Carbonite plan is unlimited, so no concerns with the amount of data.

However you may find backing up from your NAS may be an issue, unless you are able to install and run the client on your NAS.

No idea with regards to the streaming, but not sure why you would need to stream from the backup provider, if you can stream from your NAS.

Would it not be easier to have a local backup? This way you don't rely on someone elses service and just need to pretty much have spare hard drives which you back things up on then disconnect. Alternatively if you want to be able to access the files and modify them on a day to day basis why not set the hard drives you have to a RAID config that allows one to mirrow the other?

Attempting to upload what you have will take the rest of your natural born life.

Local backup is not an option, i have limited space as it is in my appartment. Also someone else pays the electric bill for me. I already got complaints about the bill, i don't want anymore.

Does anyone have any experience with livedrive? I looked at their website and it says they support NAS. Also they are located in the UK, witch is not that far from the Netherlands.

Also i am planning to get a faster internet. If i get online back-up i should have an upload speed of around 10 Mbit/s. It might take a while, but i am not planning on going anywhere.

I own a network support company with an online backup service - JDC Online Backup, and in browsing around for SEO purposes, I fell upon this thread. Feel more than free to check out our software at Denver Computer Support, Online Backup, Help Desk, Project Management. - you can also sign up for a trial account which will let you try the software out - if you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at david@jdcnetworksolutions.com.

We support backing up from a NAS, and as our backup is a block-level backup, subsequent backups are much faster than that of common backups like Mozy and Carbonite - we use HIPAA compliant security, and as we don't have access to the data assuming you choose that level of security, I care not what you keep on the backup - we keep unlimited versions and will never delete a file, regardless of its presence on your computer.

We're based in Denver, CO, but can service backup accounts anywhere in the world. We have 10 data-centers located globally, and your data would never be located at less than two of these locations.

At 10Mb/s, your looking at 674 days to transfer 71 Terabytes. If you somehow manage to get an 100 Mbit/s upload speed sustained, it will still take 67 days of uninterrupted transfer.

I think you might need to take a step back and evaluate if this is really worth it to you and whether you should abandon the idea of backing up 71 TB of data.

I am in no rush. Besides, there are a few things that might not need an online back-up. When i don't count those i have maybe 50 - 60 terabytes that need a back-up. Also i heard that there are companies you can send your HDD to and they upload everything for you.

But does anyone know if www.livedrive.com is any good? They seem very cheap witch might be a bad thing, but they have NAS support and after i contacted them over the phone they said movies and music is no problem as long as they are for personal use. Besides back-up i also get a HDD with 5 terabytes i can use as i want. I really need to make the right decision here because i will be using the same service for many years to come. If i choose wrong i end up wasting a lot of time.
