Thread: RuTorrent Problem

Hey mates,

I m facing a problem sice several days ago and thought maybe u can help me out solve it:)

When i delete a torrent from rutorrent (just the torrent), the file gets completely deleted from my box! I had not such a problem before and it started several days back.

I looked into setting but couldnt find anything regarding this problem. Any idea how i can get rid of this problem? In this situation i have problem as I need the file for some other trackers and deleting the torrent from one trackers results in the complete deletion of the file from my box:(

Can you please provide some more information Goldstone? What version of ruTorrent? What OS/Browser, etc... Is this a dedi or semi-dedi? You may just need rTorrent reloaded. Have you addressed the issue with your provider at all? If so please let us know so we know what kind of service/support they offer for this particular issue.

I use windw 7 ultimate as my os and FF as browser:) i am on a VPS server with the rtorrent version 0.8.6:) I havent report this problem to my provider as i thought maybe I can solve the problem myself:) A i said in my first post, i hadnt such a problem at all since several days ago!

So any suggestion?

hi goldstone im on ovh dedi and the exact same happens to me however i fixed this with help in irc off peeps from this site use a different script to set it up m8 that is how i overcame this

It would help to know how you are deleting the torrent as well as what version of rutorrent you have any other details.

If you are deleting the torrent with the red x icon, that would normally remove the .torrent file and the visible entry in rutorrent. But the content/files would remain in the downloads folder. Did you check the downloads folder e.g. with you ftp client to confirm that the files were gone? And if you were deleting the torrent from the right click menu in rutorrent, note that there are two options.. one to delete just the torrent and one to delete both the torrent and files.

If none of these apply to you, I would try rebooting your server. And if the problem persists, I would back up any remaining torrent content files and reinstall ru/rtorrent. Depending on your vendor, you may have a control panel button to do the reinstall or you may have to open a support ticket to request a reinstall. And if you have a dedicated server e.g. kimsufi.. you may have to do everything yourself.

Thanks cooper for ur help. I mentioned the version of rtorrent in my above post. Also, i delete just torrent and not the file but as soon as i do so, the file is gone!!!

I am on vps so the best way in ur opinion would be the reinstallation?

Is there any easier way to solve it?

Problem solved :) .. suggested him to update all his plugins apparently he was either missing some important file or an plugin ..

Thanks DX. :Linux can be intimidating if someone is new to it. After checking for obvious problems, I often recommend reinstalling, rather than trying to repair rutorrent for people who are new to linux. But for those who have a little experience, the ambitious or those with high frustration thresholds.. then DX has the better approach. Try to fix it, rather than reinstall.

How to update your plugins varies a bit with what distro (version) of linux you have, but it would be something along these lines..
To update all rutorrent plugins:

cd /opt/share/www/rutorrent/
svn export --force http://rutorrent.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/plugins

This may overwrite the existing configuration file, so you should check that + if necessary edit the scgi port number to match your system..
cd /opt/share/www/rutorrent/conf/config.php
and edit $scgi_port value to 5050 or as may apply to your system
