Thread: I need a music comparison/recommendation please.

I'm looking for similar bands to this one named Kosheen






They are classified as Trip Hop/ Drum and Bass / Rock.

I'm not real familiar with DnB although knowing me I've probably listened to a lot in my time just never knew the genre and such.

I prefer female vocalists however any band that has a similar sound or you would consider worth listening to in the Trip Hop or Drum and Bass genres please let me know as I'd like to find more artist to listen too.

Anyone out there that can help me?

Nah, pandora is way better for finding similar sounding music. last.fm is for finding bands that kind of sound like the one you want, to expand your musical tastes

As goebelglob said, I had a quick search last.fm seems to have a nice interface for seeing a quick comparison. I've never used pandora before so I can't say about that.

Pandora only works if you are inside the USA. Because of licencing its useless if you connect from any other country. Since i am from the Netherlands i don't know about the capabilities from Pandora, but i find last.fm to be very useful for all my music especially finding similar music since the recommendations come from other users who listen to the same kind of music.

plain and simple, use pandora from a USA proxy if you're out of the country.

pandora is pretty (not very) good at keeping all music alike what you searched

Neither of those tracks are drum and bass, second one possibly a bit trip hoppy so I wouldn't bother serching those genres if you're after similar music.

The second track is sort of similar to some of The Crystal Method's (awesome band btw!) stuff which covers several genres but certainly overlaps Kosheen's stuff now and then so worth serching youtube for The Crystal Method for sure.

I gotta say +1 for Pandora.I used to listen to it before they banned the rest of the world.
I used it a couple times since then as well, for just the same - finding interesting music I never heard about before.
It worked with tor for me in the past. Not very quick, but serves the purpose.

To me, last.fm didn't work out so well, some may prefer it but I thought it was not as good.

The great thing with Pandora was that as you kept listening to music, you could do thumbs up, thumbs down to the pieces/songs and it was fine tuning your radio station based on those preferences. Might have its limitations with very rare kind of music, but I think it's a brilliant idea and a powerful feature.

edit: A similar service is Deezer, interestingly it said it is not available in my country but since I had a username already I could log in. I am not finding anything with search tho, which may or may not be intentional because I am logged in from an IP where Deezer should not be available.
I don't have Tor set up now, but if you're 'desperate' enough and got a bit of time, can try. :)
Again I am not sure Deezer is any good but it offers similar service and I didn't see it mentioned yet so...
