    Default Proxy clarification required

    Hi all,

Could I get a bit of technical clarification on proxy issues with trackers?

To start with I do not use proxy, however I do use "Incognito" mode in Chrome and "Private browsing" in Firefox, which I believe has nothing to do with proxy. The computer connects directly to the router, which directly connects to ISP. Again, the router does not count as proxy.

Everything seems to be fine but:
During the introduction TankGirl reminded me not to use proxy (!) (why would she do that, unless there is an indication of some sort). Secondly, I tried to register on "midnight-scene" and the site response (machine generated message) was that I was using proxy and that was not allowed (!).

It seems trackers see me connected via proxy, which I am not aware of.

How to find out what is wrong?
How trackers "decide" that I am behind a proxy?

    Thanks.

You are not permitted to use a proxy to access T-I. Nor will many trackers allow it either. If you try anyway, don't be surprised when you get banned from a site(s).

I won't speak for TankGirl, but if she asked you to turn off your proxy, it's likely that you were in fact using one. I just looked at your introduction and you asked if she was referring to "TOR". Yes TOR is considered a proxy as is any other anonyomizing software, hardware or routing that seeks to obscure your identity/location. As well, some ISPs will use transparent proxies. And if that is the case you have little choice but to take it up with your ISP or change ISPs because it is still a proxy that is not permitted at T-I or most trackers.

If you are using TOR or other proxy service, you know it and shouldn't be trying to convince us otherwise. If it is a question of not knowing whether your ISP uses a transparent proxy, then ask them. "Private browsing" mode in Firefox or similar should be OK AFAIK.

well just see to it that your proxy settings in the browser dnt have any proxy server id
plus dnt use any software like tor, cproxy, proxifier, anonymizer, etc or any of that sort

in spite of this if your ISP is using proxy than their is no way to disable it

    @copper:
    >> You are not permitted to use a proxy to access T-I.
    That is clear.

    >> I just looked at your introduction and you asked if she was referring to "TOR".
    >> Yes TOR is considered a proxy
Correct. I realized that tor is proxy. As such I am not using it on T-I.
I did not use it on the other tracker either, but got "proxy" warning as well.

    >> As well, some ISPs will use transparent proxies.
That is interesting. What is that?
Wiki says - it is used mostly for caching

    >>And if that is the case you have little choice but to take it up with your ISP or change ISPs
That is a very bad piece of news ...

    >> If you are using TOR or other proxy service, you know
    No I do not.

    >>If it is a question of not knowing whether your ISP uses a transparent proxy, then ask them.
Yes. ISP at the moment is a suspect #1.
I will talk to ISP then ...

Is there a way for me to test if I am behind proxy or not?
Sites that determine IP - do show my IP.

Do you per chance have a seedbox/servers, if so are you connecting to sites through that on a RDP. That would be classed as a proxy.

If you aren't using TOR or a seedbox, then you should do a Google search along the lines of
    your_ISP_name AND "transparent proxy"
and see if your ISP is known to use a transparent proxy or not. You could also try asking them.

There are also a few web sites that try to help you figure out if your ISP is using a transparent proxy. They are not 100% reliable.. but one of the better ones is here http://www.lagado.com/proxy-test.
See what the test says. And also click on the cache test and follow the instructions there.
