Just be sure to read the rules at your trackers. And don't do any of this until you understand them. As drauka pointed out you cannot use a proxy at T-I. Nor would many trackers allow it. So don't trying going through a proxy or seedbox to browse T-I. And don't use a proxy to browse your tracker either. You can *probably* browse your tracker with a client installed on your seedbox. But make sure that you confirm this at your tracker before doing so.

If you have any doubts or don't fully understand any of this, then do not proceed any further. Simply continue to do your tracker browsing (ideally) from a non-campus network. Or from campus, ensuring that it is an encrypted https connection.

Here is the question and response i got from whatbox...

    From me:
Hello, i am interested in installing an internet browser on my seedbox. Is this allowed and if so, is there a recommended way to do this? The sites i want to visit do not allow connections through a proxy so i cant just tunnel traffic from the browser on my computer. Thanks
    Whatbox Response:
The only browser able to be used on the servers is the text-based browser Lynx.

And now to expand on proxying connections: Typically, these sites don't allow public HTTP proxies, so tunneling your own browser would not count as a proxy. Furthermore, using Lynx on the servers would accomplish the same effect as tunneling your own browser. Your IP would be the same thing, and there wouldn't actually be a way to differentiate between you using Lynx or tunneling your own browser.

Im assuming Lynx is not something i would want to use for browsing torrents. But from reading this respnse, it sounds like tunneling my browser might be ok. I guess i just need to read rules and specifically ask at each tracker and see.

Thanks guys for all the info

    No problem BathtubGin,

I figured this is what he'd say. Lynx is a text based shell browser for linux. There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to browse torrents using it unless the said torrent site had some fancy flash going on. The proxies most people use are HTTP proxies which mostly used to mask your IP when you want to do suspicious things. What you are talking about doing isn't really a proxy... Even though you don't have root access to the machine, you do have user access to it and you aren't trying to do suspicious things. In any case, copper is right, just read to rules carefully and ask questions to their admins if you are unsure.

Oh and one more thing, browsing through an SSH tunnel can be VERY slow. It might actually be a better idea to just use Lynx and scrap the X11 forwarding.
