    Default Creating Torrents

I have only just recently created my first torrent *blush* and I am now in the process of uploaing my entire self-ripped DVD collection to a private tracker.

I am just curious as to whether or not I can amend the .torrent file that is created to include _another_ trackers announce address in addition to the address that I incuded initially.

So for example, a folder has the DVD ripped within the VIDEO_TS sub folder, and has the .torrent file that I created to upload for a particular tracker saved within it - if in the future I join a second private tracker that deals with the same content can I add the second trackers announce address to the original .torrent file so that essentially the folder has the potential to be seeded at both trackers?

    I hope that makes sense.

    Many Thanks.

Yes, it is entirely possible. Just add your created torrent to utorrent, then in the window that pops up, select advanced in the bottom-left corner of the pop-up and change the trackers in the next pop-up. Hope I made sense, :) if I didn't, please say so and I'll post some screenshots.

Okay I will have a go with it this evening... Thanks again Rock3r. In your experience, do private trackers frown upon an uploaded torrent being shared between more than one tracker at the same time??

I don't have tried it but basically it's your torrent so you can upload it anywhere you want to :)

PuppyE1, you are very welcome. Also, yes private trackers do frown upon a torrent with MULTIPLE trackers (which is exactly what you are about to do!). For example, you have a bit-hdtv torrent X-men.First.Class.720p.x264.Bluray loaded in utorrent. Now, if you upload this torrent to PTN, and add the torrent with PTN's announce URL to utorrent, utorrent will MERGE this torrent with the earlier bit-hdtv torrent, giving you an X-men.First.Class.720p.x264.Bluray torrent with BOTH bit-hdtv and PTN tracker URL's embedded in it. Now, in this situation, the existence of multiple tracker URL's will interfere with the normal submission of statistics to the respective trackers and may result in them suspecting you of cheating. An easy way to avoid this would be to create another torrent with the same files but with a DIFFERENT chunk size. For example, you created the torrent for bit-hdtv and it had a 256KB chunk size (or piece size) then when you are creating the same torrent for PTN, give it a chunk size of 512KB or 1MB.

The other option would be to add a tiny file, like a little .nfo or .txt file in ONE of the torrents to make it different from the other. I hope you get it now. If you don't, just post here and I'll explain in further detail.

    No, No, NO !!

Don't do this. If I understood you correctly.. this will put you on the fast track to getting banned at some of your trackers !

Do not modify the announce urls on .torrents unless you understand all of the ramifications. Your intentions are good I'm sure, but this can screw up i.e. inflate the upload statistics at a tracker because the transfer for both trackers may report to any given one. Which will generally be perceived as ratio cheating.

So please don't do this. Instead take an extra 30 seconds and make a completely separate .torrent file. Either from scratch or.. if you are careful.. you can just copy it and edit the tracker announce url in the second copy by deleting the first tracker's info and adding in the announce url for the second tracker. But never append a new announce url onto an existing .torrent for a private tracker!

Okay..so in summary - Its better to create a different .torrent for each tracker that I wish to upload it to. Correct?

Correct. You only need one copy of the content. But you should have a different .torrent file for each tracker.

When you want to cross seed.. either download the new .torrent file from the second tracker. Then change the download directory, so that it sees that you already have the files e.g. forced file check, then you will be ready to cross seed. Or make a second copy of the .torrent file. Then in the second copy, *replace* the existing announce url with one appropriate for the second tracker.

Just don't simply append an announce url. Only one private tracker per .torrent file
