you want to make sure your account was not hijacked, due to a security breach and emails address taken.
it happend to me recently, but i eventually got on irc and talked to tt staff and they gave my account back.

are there many people normally in this channel or just wait and see?

In the help channel there should be only staff just explain them about the situation and wait for the answer. You should be patient as staff are people and they can't be all the time on the pc so wait until someone respond...
