Default Why is everybody asking for igiver, while you need rep points to promote?

I am a little confused, as stated, why is everybody asking for igiver when given an invite or bonus, while you need rep points to promote?

To me, it looks like there is a lot of confusion between those two, not only by me, but a lot of other people...

Isn't it more logical to combine those rep point and igivers to one 'thing' which is (automatically) earned by giving something to the community, like invites or bonuses...?

Your are required to give an iGiver feedback after you receive an tracker invite or bonus. So invitors will often remind you that you need to leave iGiver afterwards.

iGiver gives an us a sense of participation, trust and so forth, but it has nothing to do with reputation (rep points). You can rep other members when they go out of their way to help you, write a memorable post or something else noteworthy. Rep is given at your discretion, but you should use your rep power responsibly. T-I has a rule that you cannot ask for reputation in posts, giveways, signatures or otherwise. The 10% - 33%, etc progression is based on a combination of reputation and # of posts.

iGiver is used for a couple purposes, but mainly to track giveaways. You should always check someone's iGiver history when they apply in one of your GA's to make sure they haven't already recieved an invite for the tracker you are on. They are also used to rate inviters and invitees. For example, if someone gets banned for keeping a low ratio on a tracker, you might leave them a neutral or negative iGiver. People request iGiver feedback because it is REQUIRED, but people new to the site tend to forget. It also has relevance on some of the more difficult to get in trackers, where people want to make sure that someone is a Giver rather than just a Taker :D

Reputation on the other hand is more of a measure of community involvement. You are forbidden to ask for reputation in a thread. The ranks are determined partially by reputation, so the rules are made to prevent abuse.

You'll get a better description for the rationale if you read the FAQ/Rules that were emailed to you when you were 10% accepted.

I agree that it is a little confusing, but it's still easy to figure out.

Maybe the fact that iGivers are listed under the username but rep points aren't is compounding the problem. I've been wondering why there isn't a numeric value shown for people to see.

Basically everything has been said by my former poster, but I would like to add some links, because the pictures describe it pretty well:
All you need to know about rankings and reputation: Torrent-Invites FAQ

Everything you need to know about inviting: Invite Giveaway Guide and http://www.torrent-invites.com/free-...nfraction.html

This is also the reason why an igiver is only allowed to be given away after receiving or handing out an invite. In the former case it's mandatory.
The inviter usually doesn't leave a feedback only if something unusual accurs (for example not using the account at all, banned for ....). If one of the people you have invited gets banned you should also report them to staff to put the person on the chopping block.

I hope you enjoy your stay here and get familiar with the rules.

EDIT: @ JMC08 The green 'lumens' under the progress bar are a rough indicator for how many reputation points a certain person has received.

If you need help feel free to PM me, but keep in mind that asking for an invite is not considered help.

Ya, but it's not specific enough for my tastes honestly. I know that I almost have 30 rep points, and I have one bar. A new user who just signed up today has one bar. More differentiation would be cool.

If someone asked me for an invite, I could go to their feedback tab and see if they have any negative feedback. If someone says "don't invite them, they got my invite rights revoked!" then I clearly would not want them getting me in trouble either.
