Thread: utorrent not seeding!

Ok guys, I've never had this problem before and I know my upload speed is just under 1 mb/s so I can upload at a nice pace. However, the only time I can actually upload something is when I'm downloading something and even then it's only at 2 kb/s. I've checked the settings and my upload limit is set at 1 mb/s and my download is unlimited. I have peer guardian disabled and I've turned off my firewall. What could be the problem? Any help is immensely appreciated!



P.s. I do have spybot. I know it often checks for registry changes but I don't see why that would affect my connectivity with others.

Hello. Have you run the network test in the "Setup Guide" under options in utorrent? If so, did it say that your port was open?

Does the torrent have any leechers?

If it's an old torrent then the leechers you say may just be partial seeding, they've downloaded a few movies from a pack and are seeding them but as they did not complete the entire pack they show up as leechers but are downloading nothing.
If this is a possibility download a few rar files from a popular torrent as soon as it's uploaded, before any other users have completed, if it seeds fine then nothing is wrong.

if you get no upload at all (that includes 2kb/s), then you can blame your ports. to manually open them, go here. easier way to open ports is by going to your router settings and enabling uPnP (finito ).

There are 16 leechers on the torrent but 34 seeders. My ports are open. Still nothing is happening :-/

Imagine, they do not have support documents for my router and I am not paying them 30 dollars for a software I will only use once or twice in my lifetime.

It may be that either the leechers (or most of them) are partial seeders (as Mr. Bond said), and/or that the peers have faster connections than you. The bittorrent protocol prioritizes peers with faster connections, and if this is the case, you would hardly ever be given an opportunity to upload/seed.

A 2:1 Seeder/ leecher ratio is a lot. Are those maybe fast 1Gbits seeders? How old is the torrent? (over 1 hour = old; in some private trackers is 3 minutes old) How big is it? Is it a pack? You need to provide more information about the torrent and the tracker.
Use the searchfunction and read some tutorials about keeping a good ratio, because I'm very sure that's the problem. Newbies always think that their settings are incorrect, but they forget that they can only upload when others are really downloading something.

Hmm I can understand that considering I have a lowsy upload rate and do not use a seedbox. But I am trying to seed a video and audio pack from theplace.bz and the torrent I'm seeding is a few months old. I will search for something else I can seed or upload a torrent of my own. If not I'll just donate to make up for what I downloaded.

old packs like that are usually full of part seeders.

also, i think you should start looking for a new e-learning tracker. one of those cool ones where maintaining an acceptable ratio isn't a work for the professionals.
