Hi after some help on ip filter for u torrent or peerblock should u run these on a dedicated server or seedbox since i tryed the one in u torrent it blocks loads of ovh and seederbox i am on private site

Are you using a lot of public sites? IP Filters, Peerblock, Peerguardian and all those don't work very well in my experience. They only have a most recent updated list which doesn't have most bad IP's you'll run into, because they change very quickly and easily...

I suggest not even using these unless you use public sites. Personally, I don't use public sites, but if I did I would definitely use those. Utorrent IPfilter, and peerblock (peerguardian has discontinued development) do not in any way make things completely safe.

As for using it with your seed box, you should just drop it from your seed box... Unless your provider demands that you use those programs, don't worry about it. One main reason for a seed box is to have that extra layer of security. I don't know too much about seed boxes that allow the use of public sites so I'm not exactly sure how they do it.

I've known tons of people that received letters even though they used PG2 or PeerBlock. Just get invited to private sites and never look back. Except to flip off 'the man' of course.

Ok this is what i need to hear i am on only private sites i never do public 1 of the private sits i am on sometimes i think may as well be public seem to hand invites out so easy i dont run a seedbox as sush run a kimsuffi with windows server web edition , when i had a look at u torrent ip filter the other day i saw the peers tab in there was a few seedboxs no ips but seed box names this is new to me how would i go about this is it something to do with setting up a domain i no when every one downloads there ip show in peers list but am sure the copyright comanys would be looking for server ips first with the big lines be happy to send pm to people if they wont to no what private sites am on if this helps

IP block lists generally aren't used on seedboxes. Most people think of a seedbox as a means to build ratio /buffer or as a fast peer. But one of a seedboxes primary advantages is security. It adds a layer of network isolation.

Because the destination IP address is not your residential connection, it becomes a lot more cumbersome for your would be adversary to identify the end user and/or send them a demand letter. Used in conjunction with SFTP and private trackers, you are a very small target. In short, I don't think that you need to worry about block lists for a seedbox.

If you still wish to pursue this, then perhaps IPTables would be a good approach e.g. see this thread to get you started.

what private tracker are you using that may as well be public? If it looks like public, smells like public, and sounds like public... it is probably public.

Would me server be classed as a seederbox as in same security u talk abbout above its a kimsufi runing windows server web edition from what i no when my ip would show up in peers it would show as ks somenumbers here.kimsufi.com aslo i need to take out the ssh key from ovh i here they can u ssh in with no password so trying to learn this been on page tells u can do it but not very clear on how to do may be i am going around this all wrong and just get a vps seed box but no idea on how u work them bit of a noob at this new to me but a big thanks to the site and all memebers for putting up with me lol
