    You are unlikely to have a failing disk. If you have sudo/root access, you can test it per the earlier post. Otherwise you can ask the seedbox vendor., But it's a last resort type of thing to check. First reinstall your OS or at least rtorrent.

    If you a VPS or specifically if you have shell/command line access you can also stop rtorrent by "killing" (stopping the process). Although for most people it would suffice to reboot. To kill a process:

    $ ps -aux | grep rtorrent........;to identify the rtorrent process(es)
    $ kill -2 PID..........................;to let rtorrent or screen shutdown gracefully. PID represents the process # e.g. "4209"

    And if needed..

    $ kill -9 PID..........................;to close a stubborn process

    Reinstalling the OS was a good move. Glad it appears to have resolved your rtorrent problem.
    RSS being slow could be many things including transient problems on the tracker end. Give it a chance and see if it is slow for all torrents and in particular slow as other trackers as well. If it works period.. I think that it's probably on the tracker end.

    However, RSS always has some lag picking up a torrent. autodl-irssi is much faster if care to look into that.
