Default (Linux) Mass migration from utorrent to another bitorrent application

    Hello.

I have moved from xp to ubuntu - this happened around 8 months ago.

There was no linux version of utorrent (and the current one is not white-listed). Since I have a lot of torrents seeding it is impossible for me to reopen every torrent and point it to the correct location, so what I did was move all the %appdata%/utorrent files to ubuntu and ran utorrent trough wine. However it really is painfully slow.

So I'll have to migrate to another bitorrent client. I really have no preferences - transmission, qbitorrent, whatever as long as it's white-listed. Given that I can't waste 8 hours of my life to open up every single .torrent file, is there any bitorrent application that will complete this procedure in a few minutes? If so, how can I do it?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

I don't think there is such a migration tool like that...I could be wrong.

I'm also unaware of a migration tool like that. Didn't find anything with a quick Google search either. Ironically, such a script probably exists. It's just the type of self-imposed challenge that a lot of coders would do for their own use. But that kind of 'alpha' hack usually doesn't get released. I might have looked more, but you didn't tell us what clients are whitelisted at your tracker(s) and/or what trackers we are talking about. Pretty essential info for your scenario.

Unless someone else knows of a migration tool.. you'll just have to wait until the new utorrent version is whitelisted. Or import the .torrent files manually, if you can find the time to do that.

Thank you both for your replies.

Copper the reason why I didn't concentrate in which bitorrent applications are white listed is because most if not all serious trackers have the same white list of clients.

Anyway manually is too much work given that I have a number of torrents that approaches 4 digits, so I'll guess I'll try to see which client resembles more utorrent's configuration files and try to write a small script to mass edit it.

If it saves you any work, here is Perl script for migrating transmission between computers (or directories). This won't take into account the utorrent structure, but it may give you a head start if you decide to go from utorrent to transmission.

You're doing something wrong. Maybe in your firewall, check UFW if you use it and add a rule. I'm using utorrent in wine and it's fast as shit, just as fast as ktorrent and transmission. Also, there's a setup guide in utorrent under preferences. Run the tests. I was also a real fan of ktorrent until a tracker banned an older version. Not because it was faulty but because the tracker staff thought only the newest versions were acceptable. I wasn't comfortable compiling from source so I went to utorrent in a wine environment.

uresume.dat is bencoded and contains all the necessary info on data locations. A simple loop that iterates over it, maps the Wine path to a real Linux path, and then creates symlinks in the download dir of the new client is all you need — then just auto-load all the torrent files you have, and presto after a bit of hashing you have it all running.
