    Default Waffles.fm Ban

    Hi Everybody,
I am unsure why my waffles account has been banned but it has been. I have tried IRC but unfortunately am really bad at IRC so my address has been blocked. So my questions are the following:

    1. Could someone check why I was banned?
    2. How long do the IRC bans last and what are my options?

From what I remember I had a good ratio and followed the rules and am a little perplexed as to what exactly happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I realize it wasn't the best move but I am just trying to expedite the process the best I can.

First off name on here is always meant to be different to the username you use on trackers.

Secondly, why have you been banned on IRC? Being bad at IRC doesnt mean you are banned lol.
Use a webclient for your irc and ask the admins in the waffles support channel bypassing the ban on your IP, or just wait, not sure how long a ban lasts but its less than a day generally for most places.

    Thank you for your reply.

Really it is because I was using mIRC so I logged onto the channel and asked a question shrunk the window and went on to do other things. I then went to go back and couldn't find mIRC (it was on the hidden icons) so I started up a new instance and it kept saying my username was in use. After a while I tried a different username and reasked the question with out seeing that I was still logged in through the other username.

Anyways they banned me for I assume trying to ask the same question twice. So really it was inattention as much as it was being bad at IRC.

    Thank you again.

Ah so that makes sense, try using a webclient of irc (by that i mean an irc client which is based in a website rather you having to use mIRC or the like. That might allow you to connect and ask the question.

Reasons for getting banned generally are:
    - H&R's (Hit and runs, not seeding a torrent for long enough once you have downloaded it)
    - Bad Ratio
    - Cheating

Assuming you havent done the above you should be able to get your account back hopefully.
But really you need to speak to the staff members of waffles directly as only they can tell you 100% what the reason was and reinstate you if you can prove their claims are false.

    Double facepalm.

I'm sympathetic, but it sounds like you knew in advance that the nick wasn't a good idea. Geeeez.. that's just not good judgement. You should at least edit your initial comment about this to mitigate any fallout. It's information that could have been conveyed in a PM.

Sneer posted faster than me, but some thoughts - IRC would have been your best option to resolve this. Your subsequent iRC ban may be temporary. If you get a "permanent ban" message when you connect to iRC, then try emailing the IRC OP with a polite request.

The most common reason for being banned in the first place would be inactivity. Did you go 6 + weeks without logging in? Followed by ratio cheating or trying to have multiple accounts. Once in a while someone will even get banned by accident. Ratio cheating is usually deliberate, but some people don't read the FAQs and shoot themselves in the foot by answering yes to questions like "..This torrent already exists. Would you like to add the tracker to this torrent?" NO, NO, always answer NO.

So, either wait for the iRC ban to expire or email the IRC OP if the ban is permanent. Or see if there is a contact email for the site. You may need to access the site from a different IP e.g. work computer, friends house, internet cafe. Or if you have friends on the site (ideally your inviter), ask them to PM a moderator and ask what the reason for the ban was.

It could have been that I hadn't logged in for 6 weeks which would make sense as the people I invited still are able to access their accounts.

Thank you all for your comments. I will try using a different IP and see if I can get onto IRC that way.

Well that's that. I got back on to the IRC and they say that I was using a unofficial build of uTorrent so I was banned for cheating. I can honestly say that I didn't use that software but I will go with what they say.

    Thank you all for everything.
