    Default Incomplete archived files

    Hey guys,

I am having the hardest time trying to unzip and unrar files on my mac.

I just got my mac a couple of months ago so I am still learning it because I switched over from PC.

It seems like 9 times out of 10 when I download a torrent that is zipped or rar'ed I get an error message that tells me the archive is incomplete. I have tried several different archive managing programs and I always get the same error message leading me to believe that it had something to do with the torrent and not the programs but then I look at the comments in the threads for the torrent and other people have had success. So why not me?

Please let me know what I can do to fix this.

    Thanks

What error message does the program give you when extraction fails? Does it mention that a specific part of the spanned archive failed?

When you downloaded the torrent, was there a .sfv file in there? Have you checked that to be sure it downloaded correctly?

Usually that .r00 is missing and yes there is usually a .sfv file. I am not sure how to check if it downloaded correctly. I will check out the link.

    Thanks.

No problem, obviously if you dont understand the link then do feel free to ask but it seemed pretty comprehensive to me. Also depending which program creates the archive you might not have a .r00 file so that doesnt mean that its bad necessarily.

If you were able to unrar them without any problem before and suddenly you started to get these errors i would suggest you to use something like Memtest86+ to check if you have any hardware problems with your memory.

I was able to unrar files without any problem and then suddenly when i was trying to unrar my files i was keep getting crc errors and missing parts errors. After i tried everything i could imagine i checked my RAM with Memtest and i found that one of my memory was damaged.

I don't think this is compatible with Mac. Is there a similar program like this for Mac?

It should work. You know it needs to be booted from rather than running in your OS right?
If unsure how to use it let me know and we can explain abit more.

As for the memtest you can perform one without needing a bootable other device just boot into single user mode, hopefully the OS hasn't gotten retarded since this tool was released so it should still work.
How to Test RAM Under Mac OS X – Command-Tab - Memtest package for OSX.
Kelley Computing - Rember - A GUI version

Also did you try the official rar from winrar? I know at least under linux the unrar utility won't like certain rar files. Its usage is "rar x rarfile.rar".
