Thread: cute ftp pro question

ok, so in cuteftp pro, i have the option of connecting with SFTP. when selecting the protocol type it says "sftp is a component of secure shell and is supported by most unix servers." now, when i connect with sftp there is no padlock on the bottom like when i connect with ftp with ssl.



so my question is shouldnt there be a padlock showing that i am securely connected with sftp? or am i just doing something wrong?

I haven't used cuteFTP for a while, but there should be a "padlock" icon to indicate a secure connection. In the upper left hand corner?

ok, there is a silver padlock on the top left corner when i am connected, is it different for ftp with ssl? because when im connected that way, the padlock is on the bottom.

A silver padlock is good. As I recall they use silver to indicate SSH + gold for SSL. Either way it's an encrypted connection, which is what you want. There is no significance to the padlock being in the upper left hand corner. You're just used to seeing it at the bottom of your web browser.
