    Default Upside Down Video

Ok, as of a couple of days ago all of the videos on my PC play upside down. This happens if they are avi, wmv, etc... slightly irritating.

The only work around I have is that they play just fine in VLC... anything else though and it displays upside down.
Please help me, I dont want to do handstands to watch videos.

This is usually a codec problem or code conflict. If you reinstall your codec packs it should fix this. If you just installed a new video codec recently, you could try just uninstalling that one first.. if it was a conflict that may resolve the problem. There is also a Microsoft KB269967 article about upside video, but the simple solution that works 99% of the time is to reinstall your video codec packs.

If all else, fails, a guaranteed fix is to physically move your monitor so that it is upside down and the video is right side up! ... J/k of course, but maybe that made you laugh.

Sadly Ive done that, I think it all happened when i updated divx to the latest version. Bastards.

I have tried uninstalling just that then tested, still didnt work, then I reinstalled it n it was the same. So i then uninstalled ALL of the codecs I had to test... still upside down. reinstalled them all to latest versions and STILL UPSIDE GODAMN DOWN!!! You see my frustration lol.

Okay, then you probably have some conflicting registry entries (which is a pain to clean out)

What is the main player that you use to watch the video in question?

If you're using Windows Media Player, try -
Tools > Options... and click Advanced on the Preferences tab, then deselect Use video mixing renderer.

Or use FFDShow in WMP Classic (not the default /newer WMP)
And if still inverted, go to FFDShow's Configuration menu & in Image Settings / Overlay / Output tab tick the Flip video box.

You know, I am a complete retard I forgot all about WMP. I just set it up and that plays them the right way up like VLC. It seems my issue is with winamp itself... ARRGH... i use winamp to play all my music so tend to use it for video too. Any ideas how to fix winamp?

Thanks for the help so far.

A quick google search brought up some info about a codec called FFDShow if you already have it then check if the flip video box is checked in settings. If not you could always try installing that codec and using the flip video feature.

Not got it installed, only codecs I have are DivX, Xvid, AC3. Im not a big lover of codec packs and that so try to keep the bare minimum installed... i guess it gives me an option though if nothing else can fix my video issue on winamp though. Thanks for looking.

I understand what you are saying. Installing large codec packs is not only unnecessary but can lead to a lot of problems. However FFDShow is IMO, an essential codec. All that most people will ever need is DivX, XVid & FFDShow. These three should play nicely together and I would recommend that you try it.

I don't use Winamp myself, but I've heard people sometimes complain about upside down AVI & WMV video with it. There is a winamp setting to invert WMV. For AVI, probably the settings are installed in the codec config file, not the Winamp client. So one possible solution would be to install FFDShow. And if the video is still upside down in Winamp, then open the video in WMP Classic, check the invert box in the FFDShow settings which should set the codec info. Then it should play correctly after that in Winamp. Hope that makes sense to you.

Okay, I grabbed a screen shot of the menu for you. Keep in mind that the setting may be in a slightly different place depending on the codec version that you installed.

So, open a video with WMP Classic and you should see a tray icon for FFDShow video (usually a red box). Click on that tray icon to open the FFDShow configuration menu and look for the flip video setting (see screenshot). You want to set or unset it until the video plays correctly in WMPC. If it plays correctly to start with, then set it the other way, save, then change it back and save again. If you have any luck at all, this will set the codec bit correctly and then Winamp should behave. Hope it works for you.
