    Default Serious torrent problem

    Hello guys!

We have a serious problem preventing us from downloading through bit-torrent here.

    Problem:
    1. Whenever someone in this household tries to download something through a bit torrent-client, the internet on all computers will stop working, while the downloading itself goes normally. All other internet connectivity is not working, even not on the computer which is downloading. It doesn't matter if the download goes in 3 kb\s or 3 Mb\s.
    2. After some time the download itself will also stop, and nothing regarding the internet will work at all. The only option is now to restart the router.

    Additional info:
    - There is 6 units connected to the router, all experiencing the same problem. In other words, the computers can not be the issue.
    - If the computers are connected to other routers, everything works normally. Again, it can't be a computer problem.
    - The router has been changed once, and exactly the same problem applies to both the old and the new one. In other words, it doesn't look like a router problem.
    - We have tried several different bit torrent clients, and the problem is exactly the same on all of them. In other words, it can't be problem with the clients.
    - It is only downloading through BitTorrent which is messing up internet. If we download something via the browsers, everything works fine.
    - Regarding problem 2: All internet-traffic is lost, however a tiny amount of data is sent and recieved when I check the network-status. (something like a few MB per MINUTE) And very simple web-pages will open, those which require very little data download.

If someone have time to read all this, and also time to help it is greatly appreciated.
    Sorry for spelling-mistakes.

EASY....limit your upload by 10% and your router will stop crashing
you don't have to touch the download limits, just upload one.

    Hey, thanks for quick reply.

On speedtest.net I get 16 MB download and 5 MB upload.
I tried to put global upload and download limit in my client to 1000 kb\s, however exactly the same problem occured. All internet feature froze on all machines, except the downloading in bittorrent itself.
After I quit the downloading and the client, and also after restart of computer, internet was still not working.

i have a 10mb upload limit and i've limited it on utorrent to about 1300kb. now divide those numbers by 2 and you should get your numbers, approximately

limit to 600kb and when the problem goes away, up that number by 20kb until you find your soft spot.

Yep, I tried to set my global upload and download limit to only 100 kb\s. Unfortunatly I get the same problem with internet.

and no problems with downloading from DDL sites? if no, then i guess the problem lies with the amount of connections utorrent makes. probably a firewall issue or smth.

^Yeh i had the same thing happen with my firewall expect the other computers internet would work, just i could not use any browser while torrenting. I took the firewall done and the issue was fixed! I would try that, it should fix you problem. My router also sometimes crashes when im DL'n at max speed for more then an hour, I think its just an issue of a crappy router.

Exactly. All downloads in browsers from websites work just fine.

Allright. I will try that. Is it easy to turn it off? Just log onto the router-settings and there should be option to turn it off?
How dangerous is it to not have the router-firewall on?

It sounds like a router problem, might not be able to cope with the amount of connections. Try limiting the number of connections uTorrent or whatever client you're using uses, something like 20 or so (may be able to up this)

Yup. Will try that as well. I'll report back the results. Thanks.
