You may want to check the formatting of your sign-up page, it looked squished all the left. Perhaps you should also post in announcements to draw attention.

Give FileNetworks Blog a shout too... A review by them would be sure to pull in some interest. Make sure you have an significant bugs and design flaws sorted out before doing so. A bad review early on would likely stifle any chance if significant success.

    Remember: First impressions last.

Functionality is important. Your tracker must be easy to use for both experienced users, and novices. Think carefully about your chosen front end too. Gazelle and TBDev are hugely popular front end choices, and the vast majority of users like them. And that familiarity can be a useful tool in building your membership.

You also need content. You can't rely on yourself to provide this either. Sooner or later the burden will become too much and your tracker will just die. A tracker without new content fails to draw in donations. And it's donations that will ensure your trackers longitivity. So how do you get content? You best bet is to find users that are interested in the content you want to provide, and recruit them. Established uploaders and well known trackers would be unlikely to want to get behind a new tracker without a proven history. So, instead you could start digging through all the DDL boards out there and find people either ripping their own encodes, or people with access to a large supply of other peoples rips. By providing them with a door in to the world of private trackers, you should be able to convince a few to join your fledgling tracker.

Be unique. Most niches out there are already covered. And covered well. Movies certainly has no shortage of established trackers that have been doing their thing for years, and do it very well. Your best hope of sustainable pulling away some of their users is to provide something that no one else has. Be that unique content, or unique features. Or a combination of both.

And lastly, don't start a tracker thinking it's your door in to the so called 1337 trackers. It's not your door in to anywhere. If that's your aim, you are waisting your time.

Obviously there is much more to starting a successful tracker than the few points I have outlined above. Make sure you are prepared for a lot of hard work if you want to turn it in to something great.

Other than that, best of luck to you. I hope it works out for the best.

Thanks for the tips - im a webmaster. I dont build websites for glory, fame, money or anything like that. I build websites because i feel there is a need to fill. In my case, i feel there werent a good SD movie/tv tracker out there. Or if there was a good one, it was flooded with music, porn, etc. I like the "niche" trackers, and i feel they do the best (What.CD for example). My site is still in its infancy, and this isnt my first tracker. I usually never have to do any recruiting, i usually focus on coding, make the site easy to navigate and bring them the features they want, and they will come.

Ill take a look at Filenetworks as well, after i get the site more up to speed on how i want it. Ive carefully picked my script largely on the support it has.
