Default Utorrent 2.2.1 still downloading at same speed as it was before upgrading bandwidth

    Good morning all,

Running into a bit of a dilemma. Up until friday of last week, i had 25/25 fios connection and now i upped it to 35/35 but utorrent is still donwloading at the 25/25 speed, roughly 2.4MB/s. Ive done numerous speed tests and they all show a 35/35 download/upload speed and in some cases low 40s download.

Ive done all the tricks to get utorrent to download faster. Im on XP and Ive hacked the tcpip.sys file, changed all the settings in utorrent itself and have restarted the client and the computer since friday.

    any thoughts? Thanks!!

I doubt you really ever get the exact speed you pay for. I got the 25/25 FiOS package but I rarely see 3.13MB/s Verizon advertises. I usually get 1-2.5MB/s.

Plus it all depends if your wireless, what site your downloading from, etc. A lot of of things factor in, so I don't think your ever going to see 4.38MB/s.

Maybe someone hear knows some tricks to speed up and max out your connection, I could sure use them. Good luck.

    It can be:
    1) Download limit which was set before the upgrade is still in effect. Check setting, "Speed" tab.
    2) You are downloading from peers and total upload from them is not greater than 25 Mbit. Check the speed on most seeded torrents you can find.
    3) If that doesn't help, try downloading with other torrent client and see if there's any difference. Also, try using "real" speedtest instead of the likes of speedtest.net, i.e. downloading large file from FTP.

Remember it will depend alot on the torrents too.
On my 100MB seedbox, on a REALLY hot torrent, I am getting around 8mb/s download average. That is with 100Mb connection.

Your speed sounds about right to me?

I throttled my speed through utorrent so i could still vnc in and do other things while downloading but i throttled it at 2.4MB and it always peaked at 2.4MB before the upgrade. It still peaks at 2.4MB even having the throttling set to "0" (unlimited) and the speed upped by 10 megabit. In theory, i should see an increase of at least a meg down.

Use a different client to test?
    Uninstall and reinstall uTorrent?

    Have you tried these things?

Does your ISP throttle Bittorrent maybe?

Try to use some public trackers like piratebay, they usually have a lot of seeds on their torrents :)

most of the public ones that I have found are either being blocked or their hostname cant be found. Anyone have a seedbox with 100mb connection that I can try to leech from?

Just tried the new Azureus 4.6 and it maxed out the same as uTorrent. Any ideas? Speedtests show pretty decent connections speeds tho. Much higher than 2.5megs a second. Vuze shows he swarm speed well over 3 meg. Doing an FTP test now. ok, i downloaded Debian from an FTP server at RIT and it got up to 5.0 MB/s when i stopped it. So..... that would be weirdly coincidental if the ISP throttled bittorrent at the same rate as my previous bandwidth package....

I know how to fix your problem!

I just upgraded from FiOS 25/25 to 35/35 today, and I was having the same issue, speeds didn't seem any different.

To fix this, make sure your "GLOBAL MAX NUMBER OF CONNECTIONS" is set to something very high... like 5000 or whatever. Don't worry, FiOS CAN HANDLE IT!

I saw my speeds shoot up.... Now I'm downloading at a solid 5.4 MB/s WOW!!!

p.s. Verizon does NOT throttle bandwidth... YET.
