Default How to Convert BluRay Torrents to Play on my Computer

What are the different formats to expect when downloading blue ray torrents?

What are the common programs used to convert downloaded blu ray torrents to something that can be played on a Windows 7 computer (with a blu ray drive)?

Also, what are the best Player Programs to use for blu ray playback on my computer?

    Thanks, in advance,

    Finnigan

I personally do not download bluray torrents because they're so big, but the VLC Player can play every kind of file I know of, so it should work for bluray torrents, no matter what the file type is (and without conversion!). I have found that most high definition files are .mkv files, so that would be my best guess for the file type.

From my own experience and from reading a lot about it I've learned that VLC has some problems playing x264 encoded files, as it is not using a codec for decoding the movie.
I've never had any problems using vlc for years with xvid encodes. But since I downloaded more blurays the problem became very obvious.
The movie just is lagging very strongly and playback is just "bumpy", though the sound isn't affected at all.

Because of that fact I tried out Media Player Classic and it is actually equally good. The .mkv files play flawlessly using the x264 codec.
Both, player an codec (ffdshow) can be downloaded at x264.nl.

VLC is amazing for playing movie files of all kind, but if you are experiencing those playback problems aswell, just keep MPC in mind :)

I also use MPC for any x264 file without issue

.mkv is the usual format for blu-rays from say for example Bit-HDTV.

If you have a mac I would really advise you use Plex.

My problem may be with the file itself.

    After download, I did extract.

Pre BluRay, I was used to seeing an .iso or dvdiv file.

But, with this BluRay download and extract, VLC does not see the movie to play. It does seem to find some type of introduction but that is all it will play.

I get the same thing if I try to play the dowload without extraction.

I am sure I did something wrong with the DTS download.

Yeah finn that sound like there something wrong with the download or extraction. Try using another extraction software or downloading it again.
I also had trouble with VLC movie player when playing mkv there was tons of lag and movie was unwatchable. I would recommend MPC too no lag with it on mkv.

i play the *.mkv files in the windows media player with k-lite mega codec pack installed

and the full blu-ray isos mounted in daemon tools i play using powerDVD, since windows media player doesn't support it.

after you mount the .iso for the full bluray, you could still use vlc to play the movie itself (open up the biggest m2ts file), but last i checked vlc doesn't support the bluray menus, so you would need something like power dvd (as previously mentioned).
