if your seedbox has ssh access, use rsync instead.

You do not need any additional software to access through FTP under Ubuntu, it is already included. Go to Network Connections folder, add a data for making a connection to a seedbox and connect. Then save it as a shortcut on the desktop. Well, for me it is the best way because it is the easyest way.

If I want a graphical interface, because I'm transferring lots of files, I use Filezilla (you can just google it). If I only want to transfer a single file I use lftp on the command line, because you can do "pget -n10 file.mkv" which does a multisegment transfer. Most other Linux FTP clients don't support this, but it will allow you to max out your link and download the file as fast as your home connection supports.

me three for filezilla. The big advantage being that it maxes out your connection by using multithreading, which is explained nicely here

hmm i tried filezilla but for some reason it wont let me transfer files. it lets me connect and see all my files but when i attempt to dowload a file it won't let me. :(

i guess the standard 'connect to server' on ubuntu will have to suffice..

might be a permission issue, next to the filename on the right window in Filezilla you'll find a 3 digit number under the 'Permission' column, it should normally be 777 or 775 or 664
