    Default uTorrent vs. Deluge

Heya. I want some opinions on the two clients uTorrent and Deluge. I hear Deluge gets more U/D then uTorrent, and I don't care about resources, if it takes a lot. So feel free to post below on pros and cons of both of them compared to the other.

DO not link me to this thread Favorite Bittorrent Client
I am well aware of it, thank you :/
This thread is about comparing them to each other.

Ex. "uTorrent is light on system resources" would not be a good response if Deluge was also light on system resources.

Saying "uTorrent downloads so much quicker than Deluge" is what I am looking for.

    Cheers.

I wait the next deluge version. The developers promised to implement a "stop on seeding time" function for ratioless trackers.

I most often use Deluge in seedbox. It gave me blazing uploading speed with OVH dedi.
it did a good job for me. it also is stable as I expected.

This is indeed an interesting topic. A few observations from my limited experience with Deluge 1.3.1 and uTorrent 2.0.4:

    1) Deluge has just very slightly more advanced capability to sort torrents according to their trackers: firsty, it shows the trackers in the sidebar, which enables you to browse your torrents after trackers, and secondly, it has the ability to obtaiin proper emoticons for the various trackers, which, depending on your taste and habbits, can be quite handy

    2) Deluge is definitely more aggressive in establishing and keeping connections alive, which is also probably one, if not the main, reason to deliver better accumulated stats on avarage than uTorrent. In the coming days I will try to mimick Deluge default settings in uTorrent as far as possible to see if this is purely a matter of settings or it is hardcoded.

    3) Right now, Deluge 1.3.1 seems to have some kind of excessive-memory-usage-bug under Windows 7 x64 (may also apply to other Windows versions as well), so no matter how much resources you have, they won´t help you Actaully, I was about to play a little bit with the cache settings of Deluge to see if the problem is not related to them (like we have a similar thing in uTorrent with the trade-off disk usage vs. memory usage). In any case, since Deluge appears to be more aggressive than uTorrent, one should expect higher memory and cpu usage on avarage, especially with a fast connection. I know this does not seem to be much of a problem to you, but it seems to me that the time is not too far ahead of us when we may need 32 GB of RAM for torrenting!

    4) If you are a Windows user, you should take into account that Deluge is a port from Linux, albeit surprisingly stable port, but still a port, and thus happens to have its weird quirks from time to time... Nontheless, the GUI itself is surprisingly stable. I am abusing it with all kinds of third-party applications like (most notably) AltDrag, and it has never died upon me so far. Also, apart from the issues of Deluge being a port, it conversely seems to be more stable with handling multiple torrents, provided you have enough resources. I have more than 1000 torrents running all the time, so it makes a difference. With so many torrents, uTorrent becomes quite sensitive... and it is really annoying when it crashes upon me and has to recheck all the stuff that had not completed bis dato.

    5) uTorrent sometimes has its own mind when you have to recheck/hash torrents... (that is, sometimes it does not work as it is expected to). What is maybe more important, if you have to recheck stuff in uTorrent, you should always point to the particular folder that contains the actual file content, whereas in Deluge it siffices to point to the one-level-up folder. That is handy if you have a dedicated folder for your torrents, because you don´t have to look for the particular torrent folder every time.

    6) Deluge is much more flexible as its functionality can be expanded via plug-ins. I hope someone will eventually implement a feature that counts the time of a torrent beeing active after completing. We all know why

    Hope this helps,

I believe that Deluge does update tracker to get more peers every 5 mins or so. That is the main reason why it can upload/download faster.

I believe the frequence of updating the tracker is only part (though undoubtedly important part) of it. To illustrate this, load a same new torrent both in Deluge and uTorrent, and one will notice that in many cases Deluge establishes a connection faster than uTorrent. What you see in uTorrent - while Deluge is already connecting - is how peers appear and disappear and so on until you have finally connected to a peer. One may speculate what this behavior means, but one thing is for sure, namely that Deluge has already started dl/ul in the mean while.

Mmmm. Definitely more reasons to use Deluge it seems . I just got so sick of uTorrent crashing, being weird, etc.

If Deluge is so much better, why don't more people use it?
