usenet vs torrents

Obviously, I prefer torrents. Biased answer coming from me, that's for sure because it's the method I do prefer. If you can't afford to seed or upload, go with usenet or rent a seedbox.
BitTorrent all the way mate! Its free and only needs investment in a seedbox if you dont have a good home connection.

I use torrents myself but I was looking at astraweb to use alongside my torrents. One option they do is 25GB for $10 which is what I will probably go for so I can test the speed and whats available.
One thing you could do is use usenet to get the latest stuff then upload it to trackers!
More content available with private trackers, and better organization with packs and the searching is far superior. With newsgroups you have to pay to pirate, old method of pirating. Newsgroups are safer with SSL encryption, but with a seedbox you get the same thing.
Newsgroups just cannot compare to the content you get from private trackers, bottom line if someone gave me two choices: TL or lifetime membership to astraweb/giganews for free, I'd choose TL.

No, 25gb isn't enough, but just to try it out if you've never used usenet before it would be perfect... I think its like $25 for 160gb or something like that or they do a monthy subscription with unlimited downloads (DSL).
I agree there is more organization and better searching with trackers. I don't think there is more content though.
The major downside with usenet is there are some fake downloads: you download something and the rar file has a password asking you to go to some dodgy website to get it, so you have to be more careful with that side of it. I'm sorry to not agree with you okgg but you can't say using a seedbox is as safe as usenet because anyone you are seeding the torrent to can see your seedboxes ip.
