    Well, okay... ;)

I did some stuff with 3ds max (was for a job, but already a couple of years ago) and maya. I'm not sure about my skills right now, and i don't have these apps currently, so i don't think that I would be an help with that, sorry

I think the main issue with Blender at the moment is that it lacks some modeling features to work productively, and it has its weaknesses when it comes to rendering/raytracing. At least thats what I heard/read.

My brother works in the industry with 3ds max, ( ye I regret that I started with maya since he can't help me now :P). And for some time where he was teacher on some summer course he was forced to learn Blender and he said it was a total fucked up program to use, and he had problems with converting his 3ds max skills/experience over to Blender. So imo it would be stupid to even invest time in Blender if you want to be a professional once.

Well, i haven't learn't really any 3d Modeling, but i do know that, that blender program is shit, along with Form Z. I love the feel and work flow of 3ds max.

My 3ds guy is fast, and loves the 3dsmax. all i gotta do now is buy a super machine....lol

well the supermachine is not needed that much, in the start your not going to work with soooo high number of vertexes anyway. I did some of my first work on my laptop when I were unable to use to desktop. And it only got 1gb ram and a internal GPU and were running vista ( that was maya 2009 I used on it, but it also took like 10 mins to start up:P). Personally it took around 2-3 months before I rendered one of my projects, and thats where the power is required really.
Autodesk - Autodesk 3ds Max - System Requirements the minimum requirement is imo pretty small.

Yeah, that's nice but not for on a professional basis.

    We cont create small projects.

They may not be high definition, or realistic, but we use that to great large scale concepts for land planing, and such. That's where i end up needing the power, so many elements and land formations, they amount to HUGE projects.

But i already found some new machins that are 64bit. And 12 gig, with the new i7 processors. Cheap too.

I need some of that too for my After Effects stuff.

Ahh okay it makes sense when you need it for some other stuff and when you already got experience with some CG work. I was just saying it would be stupid to purchase a expensive upgrade just to find out that you didn't like to work with CG in maya or 3ds max, or that you never had the time to come close to a professional level.
Are you so serious about it that you are heading for a Firepro/Quadro GPU ?

I dont do 3D modeling, I am a motion graphics designer!

My 3D guy needs it. And so do i. The processing power is impeccable, and it goes so quickly.

Time is money. And I'm a cheap bastard.
