As for me, Family guy is the winner. Almost everything from first season midway through seventh season was really awesome. Great humor that fits my style. The main characters represents an excellent parody of the average American family (atleast from what we hear here in Europe). I agree with some of you claiming the recent episodes are a mess.

To be honest, I prefer The Simpsons because the writers are more witty and humorous. It doesn't depend on knees to the groin for cheap laughs, and Homer is a bumbling idiot but he means well and we can relate to that in some sense.

But, if I ever need a quick laugh to get me through the day it's Family Guy.
    Quagmire- How old are you?
    Girl- 16.
Quagmire- 18? You're gonna be first.
    Girl- Mom!
Quagmire- I like where this is going, giggidy-giggidy-giggidy!

Both shows have highs and lows. But, I'd take a great episode of family over a great simpsons episode. I picked family guy because I have the same sense of humor as family guy. I have mental asides which I think are hilarious.

During both their heydays, I'd say Simpsons was the better show. Family Guy was genuinely funny but no other animated show could tell a story and have it be as funny and compelling to watch as the Simpsons.

Today, both shows are well past their primes but I still feel like Simpsons has the edge. Family Guy is almost completely unwatchable as they've taken the direction of cheap one-liners, vulgur humor, and nonsensical plot lines to draw their audiences in. Simpsons may not be at its best but at least its stories offer more substance and entertainment then Family Guy has been doing to date.

I loved the simpsons, but the more recent stuff is just boring. Currently family guy is alot funnier, although they take the randomness too far at times.
Futurama beats them both with ease though, oh how I wish they'd kept making that instead of the simpsons.

Family GUY FTW. Never was a huge fan of the Simpsons. Every time I tuned in, I almost never even cracked a smile. Family Guy has me in tears sometimes. (However the Conway Twitty episode had me in tears of boredom..)

The 'Simpsons' was always clever, in that it was capable of entertaining children while including adult jokes.

I'm a 'Family guy' man, as it's aimed at adults and has references to things I get (80's movies+subculture).
