    Default Annual Trackers Awards

To find a resolution to this little dispute I am creating the poll. If you prefer other answers than post them.

We already came to an agreement.

And besides, it's ultimately the staff's decision.

people seem to have become confused over the course of that thread. the idea was that only high-ranking members (staff, vips etc) would nominate trackers, then the general public would vote their favourite out of those nominations.

if everyone can nominate a tracker, then how many trackers will you have in the "best general tracker" category? 10? 20? 30? and thats without tracker reps signing up just to vote for theirs.

it wasn't suggested that only staff can vote, but some people took it to mean that, which is when the arguments started.

I think something like this would be awesome for T-I, which is why I bothered to even argue my points at all.

It was my position that any vote should be open to pretty much all the members, but I can see how restricting it to higher level users, like 33% or 55% and above, could also be beneficial, since they should have more experience with trackers.

Personally, I think we would get the best results, not by simply nominating trackers in particular categories, but by allowing anyone who can vote to list their top 3-5 trackers for each category, then use those results to determine the winner.

    Something like:

    General Tracker:
    1. RuTracker
    2. Demonoid
    3. FSC

    Music Tracker
    1. What
    2. Waffles
    3. RMT

And, so on and so forth. If someone is a member of only one particular tracker within the niche, then they would obviously only vote for one tracker.

At the end of the voting period, tabulate the results and announce the winners.

It should also be a rule that voters should only be able to vote for trackers where they hold membership. It wouldn't be hard to call out cheaters and rule out their votes.

Yes, and we all must vote.

And...maybe create a preliminary round to cut down the numbers, so in the final there are 5 to 10 trackers to choose from in each category.

I can see many problems in this, like FTN/HDBits winning with a massive ammount of votes from people that aren't even members there, arguments on what are the criteria and spam like "TL is the best".

I honestly don't see the point in such a thing.

There doesn't really have to be a point if people are interested in it.

That's why I want to let only 99%+ vote. So they would make rational decisions.

None of these need be concerns if a vote would be sanctioned by staff and the rules laid out in a clear and concise manner. I've seen numerous similar types of votes go very smoothly at various trackers. If someone spams the thread, report the posts. If people obviously lie about being a member of a tracker, ie having an active request open for said tracker, call them out and omit their votes. It's really quite simple.

And, any concerns about tiny trackers, like FSC or FTN, skewing the results can be alleviated by creating a category for them, which they should have anyway. Something like "Best Tracker with < 5,000 Members" could work.

And, the point is really debatable. I think a vote like this can show a lot about our community and what trackers people actually use. It can also be beneficial to new members as a reference of what trackers the T-I community use or like the most.
