movies star wars is the best by far, but .. the star trek series was the best thing ever on tv
I'd have to say as a HUGE sci-fi lover, that you can't go wrong with either of them. They each have something to bring to the table in terms of the genre of sci-fi, they're smart when it deals to their story lines. The movies are great too. Honestly, I couldn't choose even if I tried.
i like star wars better because you can sit down and watch a part of the movie and soon come to understand whats going on. where as for me watching star trek makes me feel lost when watching it.
I prefer Star Wars because it has a better and more engaging plot than Star Trek. Both are very good Sci-Fi shows, though.

Technically I would lean towards StarWars... it is very close tho, with the movies, I love the first bunch of Trek movies with original cast. The ones inbetween those and the last one i'm not a fan of, but the last Trek movie I thought was freakin awesome, especially in Imax.
