PC. Mac is too expensive and it isn't stronger than PC like it was before. Apple uses C2D processors on Macs now, not PPC like before.

If you are into a lot of media such as music production, video editing, or any media alteration of the sort, Mac provides some impressive hardware that is made for media. Check out the mac pro (or something along those lines) desktop. 32gb of ram and up to 8 processors! Now that is badass. Nice thing as well is that very little viruses are made for the mac platform since the favorite everywhere for daily computing seems to be the PC.

On the other hand for just about everything else I recommend a PC running your favorite version of Linux, or Windows Xp Professional.

PC. If you're an engineering major at my college, you HAVE to use a PC to install the programs and such. I like the customization of a PC. Also, can't do much gaming that I do on a Mac.

Like scaryspikes said above, if you're gonna use it for graphics or anything like that mac is the way to go. However, there are tons of apps I can't use bc i have a mac and torrent clients are way behind pc in terms of options and customization. For the matching of specs to price though, PC wins hand down and even the graphic apps are available for PC that are available on mac w/ the exception of FCS and some sound apps. Kind of makes me wonder why I got one.

No viruses at the moment are a huge plus though :)
