The G1 looks good, but I would rather have Android on another phone, but for my needs, the iPhone works best.

+1 on the G1. My wife has the iPhone, my brother has the G1.
The iPhone is flashy, and she's always downloading some useless app or another, but I've been salivating over my brother's G1. But then I just bought a Treo Pro (Windows Mobile) so go figure. Once G1 does a little better on enterprise mail I'm all over it. Version 2 will be mine.
I go for the G1, but everyone has got to admit that the new G1,Storm,the new samsung touch screen, and Nokia 5800 have ALL copied the Iphone!
It's a new world for phones - especially since Apple did the App Store.
G1 has alot of promise. Now Palm will add the Pre on their new OS which will also have an app store.
G1 - Haven't tried it yet, but willing to since I hear so much about it. Only seen 2 people who have it. App store was copied from the iPhone, not that proud about that feature. Don't have tmobile and don't plan on getting anytime soon.
iPhone - I have owned both revisions of them and know the ups and downs between both of them. I prefer this since this is the only phone I have so my opinion is basically biased.
The first generation was the best iPhone, build quality was 5x better than the iPhone 3G and its firmware is more stable than the one today. Jailbreaking was done in command line or batches, no fancy gui and had to drag and drop new icons to change something.
The iPhone 3g, build quality just plain sucks...alot. Dust under the screen, cracking plastic even if you don't drop it, plastic build, ringer switch falls off, etc. Jailbreaking is more easier and convient than before, but there aren't any games since they moved to the App store or lazy to port it over.
App store has so many apps, but mostly junk and the top 10 apps sometimes the weirdest top 10 I have ever seen (A fart app becomes the top most paid app in the store for a few weeks...). Safari crashes easily, but I do know how to make it run longer just a bit for me.
The build quality on the iPhone 3g is the only real complaint I have on the iPhone (everything else, eh it can be fixed) bring back the aluminum back!!
I have the G1 and am a former iPhone owner. I personally like the G1 better. I am more about productivity then multimedia. iphone was great for music and watching videos if you like that but not for me. I wil stick to the good ole tv to watch my movies on. Plus you have to bring your iphone in and spend about $80 -100 to get a battery replacement since it is soldered to the board. iphone would just be an ongoing cost. G1 you can actually take your battery out.
I already did everything with google before the g1 came out (calendar, gmail, ect) so it worked perfectly for me, on syncs over the air. Also I like to send MMS and you cant do that with the iphone but you can with the g1.
G1 is better in my opinion. :)
well, iphone is pretty unbeatable now, so google has to work harder to compete.!
in my opinion,
i think G1 is way better than iphone,
the way the iphone works was all touch and it loads too long,
most of the time, the iphone would be lagging,
the g1 is better for the qwerty keyboard and touch screen,
both that i like,
and it was pretty good,
cuz of how the phone was used is truly awesome
the g1 has way to many malfunction issues, but so does the i phone
