Thread: Free phone calls

So I just went down the shop and got the Newspaper (News of the World) and they have this article how you can get free phone calls on the internet by using something called VOIP.
Hold on I thought it was bullshit aswell but if you have a headset you can make free calls apparently
That thing that is on the desktop of new laptops called skype is the free calls!!!

Heh, everyone and their mother knows about skype really. I have this phone which I got for $80-90 I think although that was a few years back.

Basically it's like a normal handsfree/wireless phone with one difference: it has two "call" buttons. The button on the left has a computer icon on it and the button on the right has a telephone on it. In the middle is the hangup button. Great design tbh.

Basically the base has two ports, one which you just stick into your phonejack and get your normal line and one which (if you want) you stick into your USB port and connect it to Skype.

I gave that phone to my mother and she loves it.. when calling locally (free) she can hit the regular phone button and talk on that, when calling another country she can use a much cheaper rate than the home phone provider via Skype (although there are even cheaper VoIP services) and when calling someone who also has Skype she can talk for free across the world.

All I know is it is free to call any computer on the internet.

Well you can educate them. It used to be lame as in you had to get headphones and a standup mic, then they got headsets, now you can just buy a cheap USB phone and call anywhere in the world via skype for free without having to wear a headset.

Skype rocks... used it for years to call my Dad (who lives abroad) and my mates who are around the world travelling. webcam banter is jokes as well! my mate also just bought a skype PAYG mobile phone in the UK so we can call eachother for free. unfortunately i have to be sitting at my laptop to call!
