Default is it okay to leave your cmputer running all the time?

I leave my computer on for weeks at a time, the most it is ever shutdown is sometimes if i cant sleep the light bothers me so i turn it off. I dont use sleep or hybernate, becuz if i wasnt gunna use my computer why sleep when i can just shut it down, it only takes like 20 seconds to boot all the way up neways.........so yeh just wondering if this can damage the computer, obviously i know that it wastes electricity.

This computer only gets shut down if it freezes or I download something that needs a reboot.

I leave mine on all the time. I wouldn't say it's bad as long as it's not getting too hot.

    The old argument....

If you PC is on all the time, then the temperature of the PC remains constant, which is better for the solder on the circuit boards. But if you have it on all the time, moving parts like HDDs get worn down a lot quicker. It's a double edged sword lol.

If your using Windows, then you NEED to reboot your PC often to keep it clean (Well, clean as far as Windows goes). With *nix OSs like BSD, OSX & Linux, you should be able to keep your PC on all the time with few speed penalties. Just make sure you clear out the /tmp folder from time to time.

On all the time! Just remember to reboot every once in a while... I had some tools installed on my prior desktop, which allowed the cpu to slow down, which might have saved some $ off the electricity bill.
