I use Asus from couple of years with no problems. i can recommend it

Ashampoo Burning Studio
I agree that Nero these days is *almost* total bloatware. I have Nero 7 and when I installed it I checked off everything (95%) but nero burning rom, the whole suite - media player, express, picture viewer etc. And it works really well now. I'm using XP. I go with Nero because I know it's well supported for new hardware, I have heard good things about Ashampoo though. For burning dvd images, though, I use imgburn (free) as its easy and has no problems in this area while nero had several in my experience.
